What else would be competitive in the 75” size at $2,000 and under???
77” OLED is the only way to go. Otherwise you’ll be downgrading from what you already have.

Today's prices, budget brands like TCL 8 series or Vizio P quantum X.

I'd stick with the 950H unless it stays outside your price range. The 900H is nice overall too but I don't think it gets bright enough IMO for impactful HDR on an LCD.

It will be interesting to see what Sony does for 2021 though.

Lots of chatter coming from the LG and Samsung teams from CES. Sony's been quiet but I'm hoping for some great news on the TV front. They've already updated their projector line so I'm hopeful.

What you describe isn't how Sony operates under warranty. Very far from it!
Well, they chose to operate that way with me. BTW, I still have receipts on all of this, even the emails back forth with Sony. I also have pics of the problems with my Z9D.

More like if you buy one of the finest TVs ever built, LCD or not, you're not going to want to downgrade to an OLED.

A 77" OLED? Son, that's a pipe dream if I ever saw one. You cannot get a 77" OLED tv for $2,000. You can't even get one for $3,000. I know because I looked for one when purchasing the last TV that I got back in September. I wanted to stick with OLED and go bigger, but that was WAY out of my reasonable price range. So, I went with LED. I'm perfectly happy. YES, OLED is better to some degree. But I am fine with what I got.

Well in your case they went outside standard protocol. Pay a technician on average $500 for quick fix (90% of the time), or lose $4K. Seems Sony screwed up and lost a lot of money on their end.

Now if you said it was LG you were dealing with under warranty, that would make perfect sense. And you most likely wouldn't received anything in return--bite the bullet with LG--

One for GeoffD perhaps? Decided to give Disney+ a go and all works fine, Dolby vision etc.
But got me wondering, as the ZD can only do player led DV, how come it can do DV via streaming, or is it a completely a different "flavour" of DV? Thanks in advance.

Ah, but why can't the streaming service deliver DV as low latency too? Player-led is what we often describe it as but the name is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn't mean that only a separate playback device can do it, it's a legitimate Dolby Vision profile and the main content providers have made sure to support it.

Though if you're referring to using the D+ service on the TV's internal apps I do recall people wondering why the ZD9 could do Dolby Vision with internal playback of USB files as there is literally no downstream device or service that's pre-processing the signal. I think it's to do with the respective latencies of piping the DV signal directly into the TV's processor vs piping it in over HDMI that makes the difference, i.e. HDMI has its own stringent protocols related to processing, signalling and copy protection and those combined with having to reconstruct the DV signal in real time is too much strain on the TV's brain, whereas injecting it into the TV's guts directly via USB or internal apps frees up enough horsepower to handle it.

Yes D+ using internal app. I did wonder if it was something to do with needing less processing power v's HDMI. Many thanks.

I have to set HDR mode manually in the "Video options" instead of "auto" doing it for me.
My firmware is already updated--
Anyone having this issue...Geoff?

Someone got Geoff banned. That's unfortunate because he was a knowledgeable poster.

When I had my 48 hour infraction, I was listed as banned. So hopefully Geoff is just on a minor vacation. I agree, he is knowledgeable.

I don't know when they stopped separating permanent BANNED as opposed to labelling some as Suspended, but it certainly been more than a couple years.

Who knows if he actually crossed a line with something or it was just his lottery number just came up so he got a 3 days suspension b/c it was his turn. To this day I still have no idea why I got a 3 day suspension a couple years ago. I gave up asking why after I got back and never was allowed to know why or what post or what I supposedly violated. It sort of a mystery guessing game to stop doing what you did even when you've got no clue what it was - but don't do it again

He has been listed as banned for over 3 weeks now. I think it's permanent.

Unlikely to be permanent. I haven't ever seen Geoff banned/suspended, it's most likely a month long vacation, if other recently suspended members absences are any indication. His info and input on releases are very useful and informative.

I have my suspicions on who might want him cancelled.
