Star Wars: The Last Jedi is near top of the list for me. The colors and brightness just pop, and the 3D is great throughout. One of the few that might even be better than projection...something I never thought I'd say.

The Hobbit films also look splendid.
I recently watched Titanic and Pacific Rim in 3D and both looked great on the Z.

Not sure what is going on...textbook perfect on my display. How many pair of glasses do you have? I had a bum glasses that came with my XBR930D (2016) that was making many 3D films unwatchable. I eliminated it, and got a new pair, and everything has been fine since then. It was the glasses for sure.

I've two sets of Sony goggles. Both perform the same. Trust me, I've been down that route of buying all sorts of different glasses, trying all sorts of different settings on both player and TV and it's all a load of bollox, really. Every active Sony 3D set I've owned is/was schizophrenic as fook when it comes to 3D: some titles look extraordinary while others (like TLJ) are so bad for crosstalk I might as well have not been wearing the 3D specs.

What screen size is your ZD9?

On my 75" ZD9, it looked pretty good with only minor issues from time to time. I know they are different panels.

I was also curious about trying other brands of glasses but seeing your post makes me not want to bother. Not sure what other brands would work with this display anyway.

65". Looks like I opened a can of worms with this observation. Now I'm stumped as the same panel should perform identical.

It could just be me and active 3D, we’re not vibing. If I sounded a bit too glib regarding your solution then I apologise, but I’m not kidding: every single time someone comes up with a “fix” for these Sony 3D sets (some of these go back years when I was still posting on AVS: new pair of glasses, off brand glasses, change screen size on player, change scene select on TV, sit nearer, sit further back, sit in a bathtub full of baked beans etc) it always has the same effect on my sets: it does **** all

That Baked Bean fix actually works though. Are you sure you bought the right brand?

I've never had luck with 3D either, tried all sorts of glasses and "fixes" with TV settings. I think it's just the way some peoples eyes work...I always get eye strain and sensitive to flicker too.

I thought Heinz were always the best, but I could try Branston's I suppose. I *think* I was supposed to get the ones with the little sausages though, that may be where I was going wrong. Thanks!

I've owned several Sony active 3D sets right from the very beginning of the 3D hype back in 2010. Sony's 3D implementation has always been hit and miss. Looking back on it now, it did improve going from 2010's NX810 to 2016's ZD9 (with the 75" model having a better 3D experience than the 65"), but in the end, it has always been far from perfect - and that goes for the 1080p and 4K Sony projectors I have owned, too.

I believe Sony had one TV that had passive 3D; I think it was a 2015 model. Shame I passed on that, as I'm curious how well that would have played out. And speaking of passive 3D, from what I have seen throughout the years, I think LG OLEDs from 2016 offer the best 3D home experience to date.

Sony offered multiple passive 3D HDTV sets on the International market, after the format cooled in Murica. I think they stopped selling them in 2018 or so. They also offered HDTVs with HDR10 implementation.

I regret not picking up a passive LG set. I actually had ordered one as a second 4K but then canceled it and got a 930D. I check CL from time to time. Saw one locally but it was a 65” and I wanted a 55” of the exact same model. I remember reviews stating that the lighting appeared better on the smaller set.

The passive 3D on the first Sony 4K I had (55X9005A) was amazing EXCEPT that it was half resolution and instead of properly filtering the image it just threw away half the lines, resulting in a very 'jaggy' look to slanted edges. But the 65" version of that same set was full rez and remains one of the best 3D TVs ever made.

I looked up pictures of the X9005A and now I remember why I passed on it back then: those speakers!

75” and 65” have different panel manufacturers, 75” one paired with hi-shock (German brand) 3D glasses = perfection! Give the LG E6P a run for its money on 3D.

See, that was something that I LOVED about that TV. The sound really was amazing for what it was, it's what weaned me off of having a separate sound system. The faux surround effect was stunning and the bass was surprisingly meaty. I sat down to watch a movie and thought I'd turned on all my separates and I was merrily enjoying the 'surround sound'. I looked down at the receiver at one point and noticed it was off, it was the TV's sound I'd been enjoying and I genuinely didn't realise it. Whether that speaks to how fooked my ears are or how good the TV's speakers actually were is up for debate (I wouldn't have it any other way), but from then on I knew my AVR's days were numbered.

And yesh, I do now have the ZD9 and yesh, the sound is nothing like as good as the X9005A (though the faux surround is still rather decent) but I still don't regret getting rid of all my sound gear. I miss it, but I've got to protect the hearing that I have left. Though if I could get a soundbar that was as good as the X9005A's speakers then I'd prolly go for that, but the Sony one I tried was absolutely diabolical. It was the HT-X8500 I think? Zero surround effect, horrible bloaty bass, muddled dialogue, it was atrocious. Put me right off after that, I'm sure there are better ones but I have neither the time nor the inclination to keep trying them out.

I have those glasses as well but when using them with my 75ZD9 (or 65ZD9 for that matter), the upper half of the screen starts to blink which makes it unwatchable. They do work correctly with my projector though.

Haha, I know the HT-X8500 is not exactly all that. I bought one for my sister as a gift, but she's happy with it so I guess that makes me happy as well.

I remember a few had that problem as well but they found a fix, not sure if it’s buried under pages on avs or on a Facebook group that was created specifically for owners of Z9D/ZD9.
