I mean, not to be picky, but The Confession and Limelight are two of the most three recent clues and they were already available on Hulu for years.

I don't know, man. That's like saying that pairing two W. Anderson's films are a possibility too, and I honestly think they're not. We shall see.

My Beautiful Laundrette has been rumoured since 2010. So, I would say, no.

Source?

I find Lubezki to be credible, so if you have Malick himself saying something otherwise (the last time he has said anything publicly was decades ago), then you have assumed incorrectly.

Just got several of the 24 or so Criterions that my local library has (DVDs) that I wait-listed. Frances Ha is one. Looking forward to trying it.

I'm seriously irked at the CC release of Chungking Express. Oh, it looks grand, though lighter than I'm used to seeing. But when we're introduced to Faye at the Midnight Express, originally "California Dreaming" is playing so loud you can't entirely hear the characters. This is why she's asked why she's playing it SO DANG LOUD. It makes sense. Now, with the remixed song playing "airbox" style[1], and quietly, I can hear their dialog in the center channel just fine. Whoops! Maybe there's dialog boost there I need to turn DOWN on my system.

[1] Something Walter Murch invented low-tech style for American Graffiti. More info here. Well, I think he called it that, I heard him discussing his restoration of Touch of Evil and that technique at College of Marin one evening (he's a great teacher).

Although nothing would make me happier than it being The Tree of Life, I can't help but feel as if Here's Your Life makes more sense in this context. It's like saying, "here's your life on this plate".

In other news, all of the Zatôichi binge watching that I have been doing resulted in me getting a bottle of saki from the package store. It's actually really good!

It's been a few years since I've seen it, but Troell's Here's Your Life is a terrific film. Stunning cinematography (done by Troell himself). I'll definitely pick that one up.

Sorry if it's already been posted, and, yes, it's off topic, but here is something for Kubrick's aficionados:

There are two points that are (with very few exceptions) true:

(a) There's always a longer cut.
(b) There's always more footage that gets shot and left out.

There are very few films where the director's initial cut is in any way a releasable version. It's generally a first step, and the director will make cuts for one reason or another until they end up with a version that they're satisfied with. Even then, the studio/distributor may ask for further cuts for one reason or another.

Which means that even someone close to the production (even part of the production) can say "Yes, there's a longer cut," and it will be true. But the real question is "Is there a longer cut that the director thinks is a viable version of the story he's trying to tell?"

Waking Life is a great guess, given the love relationship between Linklater and Criterion and the recent news about Before Trilogy and Boyhood. Poor Wes Anderson. Does he feel jealous?

Sake is great. IMO, it's best served cold. Every variety I've tried is delicious. Sparking sake is very tasty, too.

Ace in the Hole and The Vanishing had both already been released on DVD by Criterion before the drawing hints for the Blu-ray upgrades.

Still leaning towards Here's Your Life, as the hands appear to be presenting the dish.

But I am one of the few people who is glad it's not The Tree of Life.
