That's the main reason I enjoyed the series - Cousins has clearly spent time with cinema that is outside the usual 'canon', but deserves equal recognition.

I enjoyed the series, but I know a number of cineastes that criticized it because it focused too much on obscure international cinema and not as much on Hollywood. That's actually one of the things I like about it. I discovered a number of films that hadn't been on my radar.

The book is also extremely good.

The ones that seem to be confirmed for this year so far are:

The Apu Trilogy
The Before Trilogy

But based on HD sources available elsewhere the following could be possible this year:

The Killers (Arrow)
Carl Theodor Dreyer (BFI)
The Adventures of Antoine Doinel (Artificial Eye)
The War Trilogy (BFI)

Again, thanks to the board for pointing me to the Blu-ray I didn't think Criterion produced. I've ordered both Repulsion and Fear & Loathing. Going to be an interesting double feature night

There are also rumors of Wenders' Road Trilogy, which I would love to see in the Collection.

The Koker Trilogy has also been confirmed via the Wexner conference.

Holy baloney. Now that's what we Criterion collectors like to eat!
I hope to God nobody goes for the Salo Special!

Heh. Yes, yes it will be.

As to boxes, I would absolutely love to see that Dreyer set upgraded. It's so freakin' amazing. And the Before ... box will be a day one, throw funds to the winds, purchase for me too.

Just finished watching Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. The first time I have ever seen a film by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. I love it! Also, watched all the special features, and I read the pamphlet. I'm young, but I "relate" to this film. I can't really explain it. It's a movie that is still powerful to this day and age. In the film, interracial love is something disgusting. Both characters, Emmi and Ali are mocked by their family, friends, and neighbors. I felt the pain that Emmi was facing by all the watchful, hating, and gossiping people. A person should be able to love whomever he/she wants without the hate and negativity of others. I just kept thinking of same sex marriage. How same sex couples are treated like both these characters from the film. Eventually,
[Show spoiler]their family, friends, and neighbors end up accepting them or dismissing their previous hateful attitudes towards their love.
Highly recommended to everyone!

Yeah, it really is a great film, as are Fassbinder's films in general, really.

I was thinking about (but not watching, unfortunately) this film recently, and I drew the same analogy to our present "predicament." I've wanted to do a triple-feature of:

All That Heaven Allows
Ali: Fear Eats the Soul
Far From Heaven

I haven't gotten around to it. But it's in the plans.

And enjoy Fassbinder. It's really almost impossible to go wrong with the man's work.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to be buying All That Heaven Allows during the BN sale this summer. I kept thinking that this film is relevant today because of same sex marriage and the freedom to love. I really enjoyed this film, so I'll be buying the other Rainer Werner Fassbinder titles.

I love how All that Heaven Allows inspired both Ali: Fear Eats the Soul and Far from Heaven.

If there ever was a triple feature, it would be these 3 films for sure.

I finally watched Todd Haynes' Far from Heaven just a few months ago for the first time and thought it was a great homage to Douglas Sirk's film.

Well as Spartacus received the 4K treatment, and Universal will no doubt release the new scan themselves, my new Criterion hope falls to an upgrade of Monty Python's Life of Brian.

Well, Universal released Dazed and Confused just a month or two before the Criterion version came out, so I'd say there's still some hope to see an upgrade for Spartacus from Criterion.

I would hope for The Tree of Life, but I'm almost sure now that the clue didn't refer to this one.

I have a hunch there's going to be a box set announced Wednesday. I'll post my predictions then. If it comes true there will be a lot of happy people around here.

This pleases me. I didn't realize there was still a scenario in which Criterion could still possibly release Spartacus.

Yes. Plus, Wenders was just in NYC for a big retrospective of his work at MoMA, so maybe he popped over to the offices to sign some contracts and raid the closet.

Maybe they announce My Beautiful Launderette too.
The Confession wasn't announced shortly after the clue?
