Although i still have few (19), I'll play along:

The Thin Red Line (my first, and the reason I discovered Criterion)
All that Heaven Allows (it has become a Christmas period staple for me, I think it's a visual masterpiece, and I love the romantic atmosphere. I was very romantic once, but now I have faced reality. This film reminds me of how romance is - or of how "silly" I was)
Il Sorpasso (a wonderful surprise that raised my interest in Italian cinema of that period)
Three Colors Trilogy (especially Blue and Red, because they remind me of my teens and the period where I started discovering more artistic and mature films - hadn't watched White back then)
The Double Life of Veronique (same reason as above)

Those are great albums and songs. I do really like the song invisible touch. But I have always not been into the pop side of any music and tend to go towards the odd and experimental.

I recommend checking out "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", "Selling England By the Pound", and "Trick of the Tail" where Phil Collins first steps up to the mic.

I was referring more to the non-Neil Diamond stuff, Boyce and Hart were a but more punk, along with some of the later stuff which was written by them.

I personally prefer The Door Into Summer, Long Title Do I Have to do This All Over Again?, Circle Sky (The live version from Head), Randy Scouse Git, Sunny Girlfriend, Pleasant Valley Sunday, and Tapioca Tundra. Of those listed, only Pleasant Valley Sunday and The Door into Summer weren't written by one of the Monkees.

I guess you did not get the quote from American Psycho.

Haha. I so didn't pick up on that. Haven't seen it in years. It's when he plays take off your pants and jacket for those girls.

Such a good movie, but so disturbing

Last night, I watched Zatoichi's Cane Sword.

Potential catastrophe awaits Zatoichi when he finds out from an elderly expert swordmaker that his cane sword has a tiny crack and that it will probably snap in two if he makes one more kill. Zatoichi rises above, as he always does, though, and the end result is a pretty cool battle scene, where he is trapped inside a barrel, and must kill villains by stabbing through the wood to the outside. This one was tonally different than the other movies during the first hour, because the news about Zatoichi's sword compels him to give up violence, at least temporarily. There's a rather fascinating musical number, a "duck song" that Zatoichi performs during this film, and it's a testament to the acting range of Shintarô Katsu.

Gosh you must be a joy to be around! I say that with love and sarcasm because these are all good choices, but they sure are heavy!

Though Fanny and Alexander has an uplifting ending if I remember correctly?

Probably explains why I have no friends but hey, who needs friends when you can be friends with everyone in your own film collection! .. right? ugh... lol

To be honest I do suffer really bad depression and I find watching dark/depressing film really helps as I can relate to the film - watching other people happy in comedies makes me more depressed, why should they be happy and not me lol XD?

Because I forget who originally asked, I'm quoting you. So here are mine:

America Lost and Found: The BBS Story - in particular, Head. Please note A Safe Place is to be completely ignored in this set. I cannot fault Criterion, as they were trying to be completists, but I really farking hate that film.
Black Narcissus
The Leopard
Persona
Yojimbo/Sanjuro box set

There are many, many more that I really like, but if I had to narrow down, I'd go with these.

Earlier today, I watched Zatoichi the Outlaw.

Zatoichi the Outlaw was released under a different production (Shintarô Katsu's own Katsu Productions), and it is noticeably more brutal in visceral terms, with blood splatters and even a beheading. The film is also different in scope, since the storyline takes place over a roughly a year's time, as opposed to the earlier films, in which each story seemed to take place over a couple of weeks. This entry benefits from cinematography and filming which give it a newfound urgency. Finally, this film features an interesting political angle, where villagers are faced with the possibility of different, but equally despicable, leaders. It would not be forum-appropriate for me to draw comparisons of this scenario to current present-day politics, but...well...yeah...okay...

I decided to pop in the Beastie Boys Anthology while I was cooking today. I gotta thank THEBIGVIN96 for drawing my attention to it -- I decided to buy it off the Amazon marketplace while it was still reasonably-priced and while it's still in-print.

I never was a diehard fan or anything, but now I'm kinda beating myself over the head wondering why I never invested in the band's albums before. I had just a few select songs in the 90s, and now I have their greatest hits. The beats alone make this band right up my alley.

As far as the videos go, I was quite enthralled by the main line-up I watched. I remember catching the "Intergalactic" video in the 90s when I was a kid -- the others are just as delightful. What I like is that all of them combined seems to represent a cheeky collage of cinema in general -- "Intergalactic" is a riff on kaiju and monster films, "Body Movin'" is a Bond parody, and a lot of the others represent a certain urban culture and style that looks like pure 90s but still persists. It's pure pop culture, and watching these I'm reminded that music videos can be great when they offer a narrative or vision to complement the music (unlike videos that only serve as platforms for the singers or just showing parties and dancing and stuff). It can be an art form in itself, and I can see why Criterion released this.

I probably only scratched the surface of this collection -- the discs are loaded. Still glad to have it though, I will probably play this regularly when I'm working or writing for a good dose of energy and inspiration. It might be one of the best music video collections I have right now.

On top of that, I plan to get the band's individual albums.

I realize that very few, if any, music video compilations have been released on Blu-Ray. I suspect many of them have source limitations (probably shot/edited on tape or something).

Just for fun, what music video collections would you guys like to see under the Criterion label?

Chris Cunninghams work, defo! includes stuff for Apex Twin, Bjork, Portishead etc etc

Also, Sia has some fantastic music videos too!

I also love Xavier Dolan's videos. - Maybe they could release a collection done by big directors, like PT Anderson, Xavier Dolan, Lynch, Glazer etc etc

Awesome stuff. I'd totally buy a Chris Cunningham collection, especially if Rubber Johnny is on it.

or a music video anthology like the Beastie Boys criterion anthology

The Works of director Chris Cunningham

Edit: damn you Polaroid for beating me to it! One of the only reasons I held on to my VHS player was for my Aphex Twin videos Come to Viddy and Windowlicker

The Sweet Smell of Success was on TCM this morning.

I DVDrd it and will be watching for the very first time tonight after new episode of The Walking Dead.

This could represent a pivotal step in my blind buying addiction 12-step recovery program.

...but it's all in the hands of my higher power.

What did you think of Melancholia? I've read that it's one of the most realistic portrayals of depression in a film. I loved it, but I've never actually been diagnosed with depression so I can't exactly comment.

The problem with releasing music videos on blu ray is that even though a good portion of them were shot on film they were edited on video and the film elements were either junked or missing.

I think there is a long detailed discussion of the difficulties on blu ray releases of music videos in the old old Rammstein blu ray thread?
