Could always throw Rosemary's Baby into the trilogy mix. One of my all time favorite horror films.

Ordered these on Tuesday.

The In-Laws
Phoenix
In a Lonely Place
The Manchurian Candidate
The Player

Gonna make the trek to the store next week for a few more (hopefully just a few)

I currently have Two Days One Night in my cart but I feel like I'm making random grabs in the dark.

Basically, help lol. Guidance for this fool would be appreciated.

The Dardenne's brothers are perhaps my favorite modern directors (that is still alive) that are represented in the collection. For me I think La Prommesse is a great place to start for sure and would then got Kid with a Bike and 2 Days, 1 Night. Rosetta is my least favourite all of their films. Yes the performance was good but I was pretty bored with it.

Now if they would just release Le Fils and L'Enfant.

David Lynch talked about the idea for the second half of MD coming to him during meditation, and this would have been shortly after working with Sissy Spacek on The Straight Story... and he was very cosy with Robert Altman at the Oscars when they both got nominated. I think it was a freudian type thing. Pretty cool though, man.

I'm sorry to hear that. I would always stop by that store when I was in DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival.

Fortunately, they are opening a new B&N near me in Loudoun County. Apparently this store will be one of four in the country to serve alcohol. But will alcohol and Criterions be a good combination?

Yes, I agree. It's prob. Wenders' best film too (other than Wings of Desire).

Harry Dean Stanton is also absolutely brilliant. He's become one of my favorite actors today.

..and I liked Secret of the Grain and LOVED Blue is the Warmest Color so Abdellitaf Kechiche, too.

Someone outside the collection whose style and films have been right up my alley is Anton Corbijn.

Oh, and Wim Wenders, too. Bought his box set today!

Personally, alcohol and Criterions are a great combination. One of my favorite things to do is craft a themed cocktail to go along with the film I am watching on a given night. Examples include the "Jules et Gin" and "The Big Chiller". I suppose if Blue Velvet ever makes it into the collection, I would have to figure out some way to work PBR into a shandy of some sort. Shudder.

I know "I am coming to the show a little late" by sharing this, but I found Carol Reed's Odd Man Out to be a bit on the boring side. Does anyone else agree with me on this? I just watched it lastnight for the first time.

Speaking from purely an entertainment standpoint, this movie was not all that good. I have been holding off for almost two years to see The Third Man (for a number of reason, a major one being I want my theater at it's very best when I see it for the first time)...I hope that it is much more interesting than Odd Man Out.

Note: I love film-noir and I am confused as to why so many people enjoy this one in particular...maybe it is a bit of Criterion Fever instead of real enjoyment of the film.

Maybe it is just me.
