I'm hoping the Dekalog my local B&N has in stock is in pristine condition. I think I'm going to go tomorrow, and grab it. I can't wait anymore. It's killing me.
Adding that to my collection will bring to close one of my favorite buying sprees in recent memory. These last ten days might not equal some of my previous volume, but from a pure diversity (and excellence) standpoint, these will make for some highly compelling viewing, and introspection. Check these out: The Sopranos complete series. The Wire complete series. The Killing Fields The Passion of the Christ 1984 All The King's Men The Asphalt Jungle (still a few weeks away. Come on December 13th!!!!) The Danish Girl Straight Outta Compton Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Hudsucker Proxy I Confess Jane Eyre Pride and Prejudice Rapture Victor/Victoria Dekalog will be the cherry on top of the sundae. Not real heavy, Criterion wise, but I've been going pretty hog wild the last few sales. I really need to work on cutting down my to watch list before growing the pile further. The only question now becomes, where to begin with these? What a joyous conundrum. ![]() |

I suspect Oliver Stone's film of JFK owed something to The Killing in it's technique. |

I wonder if Kubrick was influenced by Jules Dassin's "Rififi" when he wrote "The Killing". "The Killing" came out a year after "Rififi". They have quite a few similarities in terms of their structure. I actually think "Rififi" is a better film, but IMO it's one of the best films in the entire Criterion Collection.

No kidding, The Wire! I just binge watched it for the first time last month with my wife. We had always considered The Sopranos the best dramatic series ever. Not so. It is easily The Wire: eminently more rewatchable. Just the fact that the writers refer to it as a cinematic novel should tell you something. Wire #1, Sopranos 2, Breaking Bad 3. All 3 great TV fare that belongs in everyone's collection.

[Show spoiler] It is arguably the best such scene in any film of its genre, and it's certainly one of my favorites.

Anyone a fan of Here Comes Mr. Jordan? I almost blind-bought it at B&N this morning, but the disc was loose and shaking around and they only had one copy so I passed.
Outside of that, just picked up One-Eyed Jacks and The Squid and the Whale. Looking forward to re-watching One-Eyed Jacks, it's been a while. |

I try to stay up to date with watching all of the films released or announced to be released by Criterion on Blu-ray. As many of you know, I used to blind buy these films. However, for the past couple of years I've been opting to rent or stream the films instead (it saves me a lot of money, especially when I find most of them to have little replay value).
I've been lucky enough to see everything released from December 2008 (their start) until June 2016. Now I just need to get through my backlog and watch the remaining films already released or announced to be released. Any of you see these? Any recommendations on the best ones to start with? 1. Le Amiche 2. Black Girl 3. Cameraperson 4. La Chienne 5. Chimes at Midnight 6. Dreams 7. The Executioner 8. Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words 9. Lone Wolf and Cub (all six movies) 10. Mildred Pierce 11. One-Eyed Jacks 12. Roma 13. Something Wild 14. A Taste of Honey 15. A Touch of Zen 16. The Tree of Wooden Clogs 17. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown |
