The best line-up for me since Criterion started releasing Blu-Ray. Fingers crossed some make their way across to the UK so I don't have to import them all.

My one criticism is not including any of the existing documentaries on Mario Peixoto and Limite. There's enough material out there for a pretty stacked standalone release of that film.

I reckon I'll only purchase Ghost World and catch the other five releases on Amazon Instant Video or another streaming service.

By the way, for those users who have Roku, do you have the new Ultra HD version? If so, how is it? I've heard some mixed reviews. Also, how does Roku even work? Do you pay a monthly fee or something to use it? I really want to get FilmStruck but I refuse to commit until I can watch it on a television.

Come to think of it ...

I did make a vague prediction on Criterion releasing World Cinema Project, Vol. 2

Historical records dating back to January, 2017 mentions such a possibility.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...stcount=159405

Although, I must say a bit hurt by their decision to exclude Memories of Underdevelopment.

Rokus are just streaming players basically. Hook em up to power, plug them in your hdmi and just log on your streaming services.

get an Amazon Firestick if you want Filmstruck today. Filmstruck via Roku won't be available til spring.

And btw, as a perk, these sticks (at least my Roku did) usually come with free extended trials of HBO, Showtime, Netflix and Hulu.

Looks like another interesting group of films. I'm especially glad for GHOST WORLD and the Ozu (which also includes his silent I WAS BORN, BUT..., presumably in a new HD scan). Another World Cinema set is most welcome, but I was really hoping that AL MOMIA would be in this one. Youssef Chahine's CAIRO STATION is another one well-deserving of the Criterion treatment either alone or in another World Cinema set.

It's listed as "Sayat Nova". I should have read further to see the translation.

Color of Pomegranates was restored back in 2013/14 I believe, so I wouldn't be surprised if it Criterion eventually release it.

I can see that film and Manila getting standalone releases.

I imagine the other films will be released in box sets.

It would be sacrilege to release The Color of Pomegranates in a boxset, unless it was a Parajanov set!

True. However, we all thought the same thing for Taipei Story and look how that turned out.

Definitely getting the next World Cinema Project box set. Took a chance on the first one so-many years ago, and it was quite an interesting journey. Can't say I was a fan of the whole thing, but it is a nice package deal and a good way to snag some crazy foreign films I've never heard of before.

It's an unfair comparison though. T.C.O.P has a much better reputation in film circles than Taipei Story.

Basically check the website and forums every business day (Mon-Fri) at noon or 1pm EST. That's when it tends to go live. That's basically what I do.
Not exactly sure if there is a way to subscribe, but if you already receive the Newsletters you should get an e-mail when the sale starts.

Borom Sarret was also released alongside the Black Girl release.

Edit: It looks like there is just room for 2 more releases with 6 titles each considering The Eloquent Peasant is just an 8 minutes short so it should be paired with Al Momia.
