Wow, Owl. I'm really sorry that you have to go through any of this, though it sounds like they caught things before they got even more out of hand. You'll certainly be in my thoughts, but please let us know how it goes if you feel up to it? I've really come to value your presence on these forums even though I don't often interact with you directly.

Having been through major bowel surgery (and having lived with an ostomy bag for several months) myself, if you ever have any pre or post op questions and don't feel like pestering nurses, please shoot me a PM. After more than a decade of this stuff, I pretty much have no qualms when it comes to discussing medical details...

Really though - take care of yourself man, and know that you've got a ton of people on these boards rooting for you.

In lieu of the Bergman set may I suggest "lighter" entertainment, possibly the screwball comedies and some Chaplin, Lloyd and Keaton thrown in for good measure.

All my best to you, old boy. I’ve been there too. Bergman would be the perfect medicine. You don’t wanna be laughing after something like that. I once had a hernia surgery and my wife got me some comedies to cheer me up: big mistake. Laughing hurts when you’ve been stitched up. Stick to the Bergman, and you’ll be just fine. Great set. One of the best purchases I ever made. Good luck!

Thanks, everyone! Between this and my ruptured appendix last year, my abdomen is getting quite a workout.

It’ll be business as usual for me for another couple of weeks, with work, running, and all, but a lot of movies at home are in my future for a couple of months after the surgery.

I may have up take a few discs out of my Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema preemptively after all, so that I won’t have to lift the whole box.
Maybe the same with The Herschell Gordon Lewis Feast box, since that will be an apt set of movies for the occasion.

I already imported Career Girls and it showed up on the channel so now I’m wondering to hold off importing. They are the only 2 Leigh films I don’t have on disc. So I kind of want to complete his works in my collection

Career Girls has a Janus logo as well so I’d be happy to upgrade my DVD to a bluray if criterion put one out

I agree. I've always stood up for him when people have criticized his acting in Kagemusha. It was hard taking over a role written for Shintaro Katsu and he did as fine of a job as he could.

One of my favorite actresses also worked with the master Japanese directors: Kyoko Kagawa. She's even in Kore-eda Hirokazu's After Life.

My other favorite actresses are Barbara Stanwyck and Harriet Andersson so my taste runs all over the map.

I watched Crumb tonight for the first time and really liked it...maybe even loved it.

I think the sign of a truly great documentary is if you can be engrossed in it even if you have little to know interest in the subject matter.

Also i’m convinced that the Steve Buscemi character in Ghost World was loosely based on Robert Crumb.
