Spaghetti western? Color me skeptical, since I honestly do not know what ones are unreleased that Criterion could release?

I see it was produced under ABC Productions International, but I'm not 100% certain how much Disney controls since it was dissolved back in 1988. They're features may have been sold off to other distributors, or actually gone back into control of the Peckinpah estate. (Might have been under MGM as well...)

Disney owns the ABC titles and they were the ones who licensed Straw Dogs to Criterion.

Criterion has released several genre films that aren't well known...

I came to that conclusion based on several factors, not just because it’s “well known”.

The only Spaghetti. that I thought of, at that Criterion level was Big Gundown. I think the Grindhouse Releasing version is out of print.

Big Gundown would be a waste. The previous release was pretty complete and can't see Criterion releasing it on 4K.

Run, Man, Run would be epic though. I figured Arrow would have released it or Blue Underground by now.

He hasn't shown any credibility, so it seems pointless to even entertain his nonsense.

I sent them a few PMs and they gave me some very specific information very quickly that it would be odd if it was just some random arbitrary made up info. If what they told me is true or false I should know by March/April reveals, so we'll see.

It appears to still be available on Grindhouse:

and Amazon:

That's true. I was looking at different spaghettis and thought about "Big Gundown" because of the Morricone score and that made it stand out. I know Morricone scored a lot of films but I also know that Big Gundown has been covered by other artists like John Zorn.

Honestly, it was just tossing out suggestions because I'm never sure what Criterion looks for when selecting films.

As I remember it, it was between pressings long enough that most people made that assumption, until it suddenly became available for order from stores again. That seems to happen a lot with the smaller labels. So you're outdated, but you're not entirely off-base.

There are still a few decent spaghetti westerns out there without a North American blu-ray yet - Ace High is another one that is screaming out for a release and would have good marquee value with Eli Wallach in a major role.

But don't you think that Criterion would jump at the chance of adding a Sergio Leone title to the Collection, particularly one that many regard as the greatest film in the entire sub-genre? Especially as the current blu-ray release is over a decade old and contains a flawed version of the film?

I could easily see Criterion releasing Once Upon A Time In The West, but remind me, what was flawed about the previous release?

I just have to question how Criterion got Barton Fink if the Kino Insider stated they have it for a few more years. I dont imagine Criterion just got 4K only rights.

Yeah, that's the part that makes the least amount of sense. Pretty odd that they started with piece of information versus saying something about Dead Presidents or Pulp Fiction. Still, stranger things have happened, but I'm still keeping my expectations grounded.

I remember there was an Arrow leaker who had some info on upcoming Japanese films, and Arrow said they were wrong. However, two months later Arrow announced Red Angel which was one of the five or so titles he mentioned were happening. So I sometimes never know who to believe.

Have a scan through the other thread, they are discussed there. There's also been a new 4K remaster since that release.

I also question that and I think it's BS, but time will tell. Me speculating on what the spaghetti western could be is just for fun, though I think that's more likely to happen than them releasing Barton Fink.
