I think the Bond movies are the only movies that we can be 100% sure Criterion will never release again. Pick some crazy titles - Star Wars, The Devils, Song Of The South - and they’re all next to impossible. Bond is just something they ain’t dealing with again.

And the other store I was at yesterday may have done the same, though it's a better stocked store so I end up there more often in recent years. There were certainly dvds there, but also about 1/3 maybe more of the shelf space was gone. Maybe because their older dvds were gone too. Last edited by fdm; 07-01-2023 at 08:18 PM. |

This is probably a stupid question, but does anyone know (or at least have a sixth sense) if The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp is getting a 4k release?
I was thinking of picking it up via B&N but I want to hold off if it's getting a 4k (Jack Cardiff is ALWAYS worth a 4k upgrade) |

Email criterion about it. They sent me replacements for the Fellini set disaster.

The Servant is worth checking out if you enjoyed Parasite. There's a lot of similarities in themes between the two films (As well as the architecture concept where the levels of floors determine the social class of the characters).

I guess im not like everyone else since i like the cardboard digipack cases more then the standard
If i had to choose between the original cardboard version or rereleased plastic case i would go cardboard as long as the content was all the same on the discs and booklets |

It should also be considered that newcomers who are not aware of the issues of Ritrovata see the rancor over what they have done and learn in no uncertain terms that some take it very seriously, so much so they don't believe a rise above it approach is warranted. In other words, in my own personal opinion, I think the vitriol is not only understandable, but necessary. So in that sense I do see it as being "helpful" as you say, but I can also understand you and others being put off by the heated tone. As long as it doesn't escalate to excessive lengths, sometimes applying power to one's words is the only way to be heard. |

Posting this here, as in all likelihood Criterion would be the ones to release these, if they did get released, but Park Circus has just listed several brand new 4K DCPs of Fox/Disney titles on there:
3 Bad Men (John Ford, 1926) The Sea Wolf (Alfred Santell, 1930) Cavalcade (Frank Lloyd, 1933) (from this MoMA listing, it appears it's a new restoration between the Film Foundation, MoMA, and Disney) Pleasure Cruise (Frank Tuttle, 1933) The Warrior's Husband (Walter Lang, 1933) Bright Eyes (David Butler, 1934) Asegure a Su Mujer (Lewis Seiler, 1935) Danger, Love At Work (Otto Preminger, 1937) They've also listed the new 4K restoration of Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound on there as well, which I believe was mentioned earlier on this thread. |

Might as well. It's tempting to wait for the 4K release if they ever do but my God was this the most beautiful movie ever made. It shouldn't be possible to film it that way with anamorphic lens but Chivo and Malick did, those crazy sons of guns.
