Scorsese's a big fan, at least of its tracking shots, so maybe there's hope.

The Beat That My Heart Skipped is one of my most wanted discs. I had no idea it was with Criterion. Hopefully it will be announced soon.

I have the French disc for about 10 years now, and it's solid. But a 4K would be huge. It seems it is with Criterion since it's streaming on their channel with their logo in front of it

Criterion has been embracing 4k. Hopefully it will happen soon.

Today is "National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day," so maybe they're busy tidying up the office.

Speaking of Kino, A bunch of their MGM 4Ks that had previous Criterion releases are going OOP (they put them on their while supplies lasts list) and the assumption is that MGM didn't extend those because Criterion wanted them.

I'm sure Criterion will release 4K upgrades of these eventually

12 Angry Men
In the Heat of the Night
The Great Escape
The Manchurian Candidate
The Night of the Hunter
Paths of Glory
Some Like It Hot
Dressed To Kill
The Killing/Killer's Kiss

I hope for everything that is holy in this world this never happens. We already have 4K's of these films and we are limited with what we get from Criterion to begin with. It would be a huge waste. Criterion should have just let it be with Kino having those movies and moved on.

I have expectations that these are going to happen, but it really does seem like a wasted duplicate effort. Unless there is some essential extra that needs to exist in the world, move on to other things.

I assume we aren't getting anything today....

They just posted on Facebook that there will be no announcements today.

The graphic designer was late turning in the 4K artwork for SubUrbia (1996) and Eyes Wide Shut.

I agree. It sucks if it takes up slots from 4Ks we could have instead but they'll still sell enough of these, especially since they'll have the license for much longer than Kino did... I know people who bought the Criterion BDs of some of these even after Kino released the 4Ks. Criterion has fanboys that only look at their releases.

We really do not know for a fact that Criterion now has rights to the MGM titles from Kino. I do know that for some reason MGM licenses titles with very short windows. There are titles that Arrow and Shout had licensed and were abruptly OOP like these films. They ironically ended up with Kino, except for A Fish Called Wanda, which has not ended up being re-released.
