Haha yeah. I was surprised it was only $14.99 as opposed to the usual $19.99 during the sale, but I almost didn't buy it but I happpened to look behind me from the Criterion blu-ray section and there it was, calling to me.

I almost bought The Red Shoes, but I decided to save my money for A Prophet next week, since it's an absolutely incredible film that easily landed in my top ten of 2010 (since it's a 2010 US release, and I didn't see it on the festival circuit last fall). But I HIGHLY recommend seeing it if you have any interest in just purely great filmmaking.

+1 I was real happy to add it to my collection. Was always a fun time when we saw it back in the 70's in school. When I saw it on the Criterion release, it had been 30 years since had last saw it.

I almost picked up Bergman's Island on DVD for 9.99 and then I remembered, IT'S INCLUDED ON THE BLU OF THE SEVENTH SEAL AS A SPECIAL FEATURE! So in reality The Seventh Seal blu-ray is sorta a double feature disc!

OCD ALERT!!!

I had originally picked up Bottle Rocket in the digipack case near the beginning of the sale. I saw the plastic case a couple of days ago and decided to buy it.

The manager of the store said that she would take back the open copy in the digipack case and give me store credit. As I just became a member for this sale, I will undoubtedly use the cash pretty quickly.

I'll let you know if the C lines up on the case that I bought.

After the sale I look forward to some good discussions on these films. You guys are actually going to watch the films, right?

Looking forward to October.

Psycho
Seven Samurai
Apocalypse Now

And that's just for October 19.

What are you kidding? If you take it out of the package, then the it's no longer mint and the value goes down.

Okay, damage so far with online and store purchase for the B&N sale:

BD
Everlasting Moments
Gommorah
Leopard
Revanche
Bigger Than Life
Close Up
Red Desert
Days of Heaven

DVD
Le Samourai
Bergman Trilogy
The Hit
Le Cercle Rouge
Le Deuxieme Souffle
Naked City
White Mane
Night and Fog
Joan of Arc
Vampyr
Army of Shadows
Le Duolos
The Burmese Harp
The Human Condition
Fires on the Plain
The Vanishing
Insomnia

I have to stop. I'm guessing they do this again later this year. I hope at least.

I totally agree about Citizen Kane. Maybe it was too hyped before I saw it, but I found it a bit dull. Not to mention I have known what Rosebud was since I was 6 years old.
I bet he truly doesn't know what Rosebud means.. I guess there is just no accounting for taste nowadays. Then again look at the popularity of reality TV.

In case you're interested in the non-Criterion release, I was at Costco last week and I saw the Hitch box set including Notorious for really cheap.
Awesome movie. i wish it would see a Bluray release. Better yet I wish Criterion could get the rights for it. I'd probably stay away from some of those cheapo DVD releases. I had a few before the Criterion version released and they were horrible looking.

I feel your pain. My Girl told me I better check my bank account. She thinks my identity got stolen because of all the charges from Barnes and Noble.

I may run with it. "That guy who stole my indentity just preordered all the the Criterion DVD/Blurays. If only I could stop him"

What if like most people, one does not buy them all? Putting them by number would not work very well then.

As long as you have at least 2 then a numerical system is possible it just feels good to have them in line by number, trust me, try it and you'll never go back...

I am actually afraid to say this cause I might be run out of the thread but I never place my Criterion together like all of you do. I have them mostly mix with my classic/drama section

I just feel as if they deserve the amount of respect from me that Criterion put into them. Theres no way im putting Repulsion between Rambo and Rocky, lol. I know you said you do it by category, but im just saying that it looks so much better to start your collection with the Criterions. I actually start mine with my digibooks in alpha then Criterions. Mine goes as follows:

Digibooks - Alpha
Criterions - Numerical
Foreign - Alpha
Everything Else - Numerical to Alpha
Animation - Alpha
My Girlfriends movies (chick flicks) - Alpha

it looks and feels fantastic to have them arranged in a different way than the norm

I don't put them in alphabetical, or numerical order..... I just slide stuff over to make more room as I buy them, and throw them on the shelf..... If you spend enough time looking for movies, before you know it, you know where they all are....... You could list any of my 1,500 or so movies (DVD and Blu-ray) and I could walk up to my shelves and find it withing 90 seconds...... and none are in alphabetical order.... I don't know why so many people tell me "you have to do this" or "you have to do that" what's the difference...... I know where my stuff is......

You mean you actually take it out of the shipping package? It loses all value once you remove the brown cardboard box.

I worry more about watching them again than where they go.

This informative website should help with questions...
