The thing is we're all guilty of it, but we hate ourselves after the fact.

For the previous three B&N sales, the same thing always happens. This thread gets really cluttered with everyone's list of movies that they bought. I did it once, I think, just to be obnoxious. Then, if people are making multiple trips over the course of the sale there's gonna be a post for each list of movies that was obtained on each trip. Then, after the whole sale is over, the same people will post the all-encompassing cumulative list that will wrap up all of their previous posts into one nice "end of the sale" post just in case we had forgotten what movies they were able to get during the sale. Then, we never see or hear from those people again in this thread. That's the problem. The least they could do is stick around and discuss all of these films after they've viewed them... if they ever do watch them.

I double dipped on The Last Emperor and will probably get In the Realm of the Sense.

and a post like this:
I bought 3 criterions at B&N today for $50!

If all you're interested in is "official criterion news", I believe it gets posted onto their website in a timely manner. I've never considered that what this thread was about though, since (IMO) nearly 70%-80% of the posts are just talking about movies people recently bought or are planning to!
True. We have people here who hate:

Oh no, here comes a list!!!

1.) Posts that repeat questions from newbies who truly don't know (I know people can look on the first page, but when you see that the forum is over 900 pages, why would someone in their right mind want to START there??? Especially when they don't know that info is out there. They JUMP RIGHT IN to the end of the discussion....

2.) Posts that speculate what the next monthly announcement will be

3.) Posts that try and guess the newsletter clues

4.) Posts that list our purchases

5.) Posts that list our want-lists

6.) Posts that are rude, sarcastic and pointless to other members

7.) Posts about CC and CG's love child

8.) Posts about CC's mother

9.) Sarcastic repeats of the questions mentioned in #1 from people who know the answers already

10.) posts that bash the same 3 directors

11.) posts that praise the same 3 directors

12.) defensive "why me?" posts

Are there any more? If we take all of this away, what are we left with? The same info you can find on criterion.com. And what fun is that????

I can agree with that and obviously like reading posts that discuss the actual movies rather than just listing what someone bought. But I know there are times when people come to the thread asking for recommendations, etc. and then later list what they bought based on those recommendations and/or criticisms. I guess those are the posts I don't mind reading.

It's still a really, really good film, in my opinion. Definitely try to check it out before this sale is over, in case you do want it. I never saw the original theatrical cut so I can't compare, but Ang Lee's director's cut on the Criterion disc makes for a pretty dang solid movie with a great all-around cast, I think.

Here's a sample of DVD Talk:

User: I just picked up Seven Samurai for $9.99 here's how I did it.

List price $49.99

Half off took it to $25. Then I used a $5 off 20 DVD coupon to bring it to $20. I informed the cashier I was in boot camp for two weeks and demanded a military discount (like bn.com/military). They took another $5 off to bring it to $15 but since it took the manager 15 minutes to get approval and override the price they gave me a courtesy $5 giftcard. Final Price $9.99.

I tried the same the next day with The Leopard and they told me they're not accepting any coupons from me again.

Yes, but will it be the theatrical cut, which was panned by pretty much everyone, or the new director's cut that is featured on Criterion's disc? I guess you may want to check the running times.

Just watched Seven Samurai blu-ray and I must say that I'm just happy it's on one disc now! Of course the PQ and AQ are simply stunning, but the fact that I don't have to switch discs anymore takes the cake!

Are there any other movies like Chungking Express?
It was enjoyable but the whole thing with the one girl going into the cop's apartment was kind of creepy and the cop not being pissed of was kinda surprising.

Also should have posted earlier but I'm getting #283 Akira. Don't think many care about LaserDiscs anymore but who cares anyway and its probably not in anyone's collection.

I'm guessing you never would have survived the laserdisc era.

I love Mifune's role, but not as much as his High and Low performance.
