Dude, you need to cool it. Nobody cares about these movies, ok? We're collectors here.

I'm just kidding, I'm with you. This board can be really ****ing dumb.

Yep. I actually started buying Criterions just so I can get the clear cases. If I buy a Playstation Greatest Hits game it's in a red box, so I transfer the game to the Criterion case. But I like the booklets so I keep those. I started to watch Broadcast News on Charter cable, but about twenty minutes before it ended the film got cut off. I tried it again with the same results. So Broadcast News is going on my 'buy list.' Charter also has Carlos, so I will watch it sometime soon as well.

You can't beat B&N for great customer service. According to their site they had a copy of Thin Red Line in stock so I sent a request for them to hold it. Two hours later I get a response that it was no longer in stock. Two hours after that, I walk into the store and there it was in the display as you walk into the movie section. Nice.

Last sale, I went in and one girl tried to tell me I couldn't use a $5 off coupon even though she had sold a film to me earlier that day and I used it with no problems. AND I had used it with at least 3 other cashiers with no problems. So I just told her that and she honored it. Again,

I have that DVD set ... I like it but I think the songs are edited for explicit language.

All I got was Pale Flower and Cronos... and pre-ordered the rest of July's releases. I already own every blu except maybe 5 titles, and several hundred on DVD.

Yeah so, I did the sale using eBates and the 10% off code:

Everything in date released order from America Lost and Found: The BBS Story through to Naked (plus Che* as a separate order w/15% off coupon).

Will pick up The Music Room through to Léon Morin, Priest after the 26th to use another 10% off coupon.

Total so far: $729.11 + $22.73 = $751.84 using Bill Me Later w/PayPal

By the way, tax is a b***h after being used to Amazon: Paid $48.71 just in taxes already.

*I like to get my Criterion titles from the sales in date order, but received Che as a present from one of the sales but the bearer had received the DVD edition from B&N store pickup and not realized. They had promised to exchange it, but that hasn't happened, and I finally got tired of waiting.

I just watched The Tin Drum Criterion DVD (my first time seeing the movie too) and can I just say that I wish CC would release it on blu over here The transfer on the DVD was exceptional so it would be really something to see it on blu! I highly enjoyed it...the surrealism, mixed with allegorial fairy tale elements etc. David Bennent was just made for that part!

My bf and I just got back from Barnes N Noble and I got me the Blus of 'The Great Dictator' and 'Kiss Me Deadly'. I had to ask about the Blu of 'Kiss Me Deadly' and they only had ONE Blu! I couldn't find it at first but then I saw it on the New Release rack.

Imma go back next payday and pick up 'Sweet Smell of Success'. They had 4 of them so I just went ahead and got these two.

The lack of Herzog is strange, does anyone know why none of his stuff is on Criterion (but a documentary about his films is)?

Oh, and apparently more Fassbinder besides World on a Wire is coming.

question about the sale (for real this time):
How often does stuff go on Backorder online? I went to a B&N near me and their selection is lacking, so I might just place a big order online. Will I be able to find most of what I want from DVDs and Blu? The last two sales I had no trouble getting By Brakhage and The Thin Red Line, but I'm just making sure. I don't want any of the most popular titles...

It was a tragedy what happened to you. At least you took it in stride and didn't use it as an excuse to play the victim.

Anyway, meh.

Just finished Zazie dans le Metro. Wow, what a crazy and entertaining film. (and one that has a lot of replay value) Malle is definitely one of my favorite French filmmakers along with Resnais. I have a feeling that Hiroshima Mon Amour will be given a blu-ray upgrade soon.

Anchor Bay hogging all the distribution rights maybe? And I guess it depends on what they could do with a potential release. For the past decade or so Criterion has made an effort to source mostly everything from HD masters, but I don't think any such digital materials exist for the Herzog films - I don't think they've been touched in ages. Maybe there are no suitable film elements accessible for Criterion to do their own transfers from, and Werner himself seems much too busy to create or supervise any new ones (unless I'm mistaken he owns most of his older films through his production company.)

Would love to have the Herzog/Kinski box on Blu-ray, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Gaumont released a Nosferatu BD in France...knowing Gaumont the quality is excellent; I believe I read the release cost so much money that they could not afford to license the German audio to go with the French DUB, to the anger of many French cinephiles.

That's what I'm saying. Why do you keep replying?

Anyways, who else will be cancelling Netflix in September?
