I can't stress enough how great Jean Vigo's work is. L'Atalante is one of my fav films (on the short list). I couldn't recommend Zéro de Conduite enough either, as I'm a sucker for any anarchic style of filmmaking. If you consider yourself a "film buff" you should of prob already have seen these films. If not, I couldn't tell you a better blind buy for a Criterion, no, not just a Criterion, but anything.

Outside of a few new releases I'm not sure what anyone has left to buy that they couldn't during the BN sale.

Maybe stuff they *almost* bought during the last B&N sale, but didn't?

$24 is no better than Amazon when one factors in BN shipping costs.

Guess again
Actually, I'd just put in an Amazon order, so I've missed out on some minor savings, but I just added another five that I'd been watching for awhile.
Between Amazon and Barnes & Noble, I'm expecting the following Criterions:
Le Cercle Rouge, The Killing, If..., The Battle of Algiers, Wages of Fear, Night of the Hunter, Leon Morin, Complete Vigo, and Orpheus.

unless for example you live in an area where Amazon uses 3rd rate indie 'delivery' services and you need 3-4 shipments of an item before you actually receive it.....

It kind of is, especially if you have a membership. Might stop by after class.

BN = free shipping by the same rules as Amazon. The real issue from my viewpoint is TAX. B&N has sales tax, Amazon has no sales tax.

For me I'm not going to jump out of my seat for $24 when I was buying at barely $15 just a few weeks ago. But if they stack a coupon (and my member discount) I could see myself visiting a store and getting 1 or 2 just to tide me over until the next 50% sale where I will load up again.

I have a question

Right now I have Jimi Plays Monterey & Shake! Otis at Monterey and if I order Monterey Pop, would there be any way to receive the Complete Monterey Pop slipbox from Criterion? And how much would it cost me if it is possible?

I'm not buying, as I'm tapped out from the last sale, and need to start saving for a trip in October. The prices are decent enough for me though, as I'm not one of those fortunate enough to get Criterions for under 20 via stacking in-store coupons. I'm also not as anal about how much I pay for a BD, as to me, the movie matters more than how much it is, and what the packaging looks like. If I can get a sale, it's a bonus. I won't not buy something because it's over 20 dollars; I run the risk of it never dropping, and it going out of print.

The tax B&N charges is nothing. It just makes their shipping the same price as Amazon's to Canadians.

Each to their own but I think your logic is flawed. It has nothing to do with being anal about prices. At the bare least you could get more BD out of your available funds.

Nice pics. I especially like the top two films in your briefcase. I must have watched Kiss Me Deadly a dozen times since it was released on BD. (and Pale Flower five or six times)
