Very encouraging.

Criterion should release some MGM Bergman films, especially Persona. The God Trilogy would be just as great.

I've always thought there must be loads of people who have been thinking the same thing ever since Criterion started releasing their MGM bds.
Those films would seem to be beyond obvious choices for Criterion to grab.
Persona especially.
After 6 years that is one film screaming for a blu-ray release.
Personally one of my most wanted Criterion MGM gets is They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
The dvd is not even anamorphic, and the movie is just mesmerizing.

well all is not lost.
While we wait for Persona to be released we can soon enjoy a film which is destined to be just as revered in coming decades as a world cinema classic.

I was just thinking about Persona today, and how I would love it if Criterion released it. Or if it just got a decent blu-ray release.

Criterion announcements usually occur on the 15th of the month. Since the 15th of this month falls on a weekend, I assume the announcement for the October slate is planned for either this Friday the 13th (always my lucky day ) or Monday the 16th.

Not me. I'd very much like all three on Criterion—especially Rosemary's Baby. I really don't mind having some mainstream titles in the Criterion Collection, as long as the package is head-and-shoulders above any standard packages released by, say, the original studio in terms of a.v. quality, supplements and package design.

I hope Monday! That's my birthday, and October is probably one of my favorite months, so this would be a spectacular "gift" from them. But, they already announced
[Show spoiler]Eraserhead
in Hulu, so they kinda already gave me my early birthday gift

DVD beaver showed that MGM DVD of Persona was badly cropped. The hour of the wolf would also be great in blu ray. I really hope criterion will pick these titles.

I'd love to see all four of them released by Criterion, though (+McCabe and Brewster, but that's a whole another story;WB....blah,blah).
Thieves Like Us really does seem as if it would fit in well with the Criterion Collection. And, yes, it's owned by MGM whose ongoing relationship with Criterion has produced many terrific packages (e.g., Paths of Glory, 12 Angry Men, Salo). So, this could be nice if it becomes reality.

Gosford Park is owned by Universal, whose partnership with Criterion has also produced many solid packages, often stuffed to bursting with extras (e.g., Traffic, The Last Temptation of Christ, Videodrome, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Monsoon Wedding).

Nashville is owned by Paramount, which also has an ongoing relationship with Criterion that has produced many first-rate packages (e.g., Days of Heaven, If...., Harold and Maude, Rosemary's Baby (assuming it's happening)).

So, there's hope for us fans of Altman.

Yes, it starts on Tuesday, July 10th. I could be wrong but, I think it may start online in the early morning hours.

Hmph...I really need to compile my list.

While Criterion announces their October slate, I'll probably be busy...buying Criterion titles during the 50% off sale. Yes, it's going to be all about Criterion for the next couple weeks.

Malik's Badlands would be also a great choice for a Criterion blu ray treatment. I saw the DVD last year, there are many great scenes that would look great on blu ray. I think The thin red line and days of heaven are two of the best criterion blu rays by far.

Nashville is an amazing film, and I would love for it to be released on Blu from anyone, but if Criterion were to release it...I"d be one happy camper

Gonna take advantage of my birthday as a time to pick up some Criteirons

My girlfriend already gave me my birthday gift early, and it was my most wanted Criterion at the moment, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence Can't wait to sit down and watch it. For now, I'm just trying to catch up on Breaking Bad before the new season starts Sunday.

Sale is live! Looks like they aren't doing 50% off on titles released after the sale ends like they did with November 2011's.

Looks like the sale is an "Art House Film" sale. It's not limited to just Criterion titles...should be an interesting sale!
