Same for me.
I've also been eyeing off the Masters of Cinema releases of the Mizoguchi films, so I'm glad I held off on those as well.
So it looks like at least three for me

Why do you say that? They still own the rights. I could see them easily releasing a Preston Sturgess box with Sullivan's, Lady Eve, and Unfaithfully Yours.

surely they will. Also Gaumont has released Band of Outsiders on blu-ray, for those who can't wait. If not, the Criterion dvd is also very good.

I would've sworn that Sullivan was a SC title 'snatched away' from CC, so my bad. Yeah a Preston Sturges box would be awesome. Love to see Palm Beach Story & Miracle from anybody.

OUF! Another quiet month for me. Only Sansho for me in February which will only be my third Criterion since September

In The Mood For Love
Rashomon
Sansho The Bailiff

Sort of help my wallet a bit because Criterion really hurt my wallet in the early part of 2012

That would be excellent! I wish they would release a surprise upgrade like the Beastie Boys!! Now that would be a real treat!

Wait, there must be some mistake here. Surely you intend to pick up Ivan's Childhood in January and On the Waterfront in Feb?

And yes, I just called you Shirley.

Well, maybe those plebes with fine arts majors specializing in the history of cinema, or oriental swordsmanship, or obscure esoterica. Sorry, I'm in a slump after laboring through "The Avenging Angel" taped a couple of nights ago on TCM... might have to watch Rocky 5 just to re-calibrate my viewing preferences.

I picked up Rashomon almost out of courtesy.. I've never been a huge fan of it. Despite the very innovative flashback structure that was uncommon at the time, I've just never found the story that compelling. Maybe it's due to a lack of a main character, or the out of left field ending with the abandoned baby. It's good, but far from top Kurosawa for me.

Ivan's Childhood would be interesting and I would rent it since I like the movies of Andrei Tarkovsky. Buying however, not really. I am not a big fan of war movies in general (with the exception of Star Wars before one of the other stand up comic in this thread bring it up ) so buying just not in the card for me.

As for On The Waterfront I prefer not comment on how I fell about Marlon Brando, everytime I do it bring's out all the Brando fans on me and I am out of "Brando fan repellent"

And please don't call me Shirley.

Iy was also not well received in Japan, many felt it was too "westernized" of a story, while people in the west found it "exotic". I always found the use of the different characters telling part of each stories to move the movie along very interesting. You are right in saying that it really does not have 'main character' in the real sense. I think the story or stories could be look as the main character or characters

It's funny you put it that way. I've had it in my hands a couple times over the past week or so and when I finally do get it one of the main reasons will be it would just feel wrong not to.

Any thoughts on An Inn at Tokyo? It's being shown tonight with a benshi providing narration.

That we might see some awesome WB titles that even the archives won't distribute?

I liked La promesse more than Rosetta because it wasn't as soul crushing.

I'm buying Narayama because I have never disliked a Japanese film I've blind bought from Criterion thus far.

I'm also wishing I lived near at least one of the special 12 cities in the US right now. I really would kill to see "Daily Nightly" live with Mike as the Moog. The vids on YouTube aren't enough.
