agreed, and I think it would make a nice pairing, to be released alongside Lord of the Flies. I sincerely hope they take the opportunity (with spine number 666) to match up the movie with that number, rather than having it be arbitrary.

If so, it would more or less coincide with Del Toro's Pacific Rim, right?

Looks as if that's the case, and that makes the possible announcement of DB all the more appealing.

there is a UK box with devils backbone , pans labyrinth & chronos.. the releases look all real good. so i might prefer criterion releasing something on blurays thats not already avaible

i would love to get some korean classic cinema like

La Servante (1960) (french release bluray)
(Hanyo) (Korea 1960)

2010 they made a remake "the housemaid"

Kim Ki Young's 1960 classic The Housemaid is widely regarded as one of the best Korean films ever made. Fifty years later, acclaimed filmmaker Im Sang Soo brings the thriller to screen again with a highly anticipated remake that has garnered both critical acclaim and huge box office.

To ensure that I would get Le Cercle Rouge and Army of Shadows, I ordered from Amazon but also picked them up at a local B&N in the meantime in case they didn't ship.

I recieved AoS, so I plan on returning the copy from B&N. Before I do, however... if anyone is having a hard time finding AoS and would like a copy, PM me.

I stumbled upon this on TCM last year (... right before or after a showing of Repulsion). I couldn't stop watching it once I started. "Chaotic" seems like as good a word as any to describe it.

I gave in to temptation and ordered a used "Like New" copy of the out-of-print Pierrot Le Fou Blu-ray from Amazon for $60.

This is one of my favorite Criterions, and it's been bothering me that I do not have the Blu-ray in my collection. I've been thinking on and off about it since I got my Blu-ray player (when Pierrot Le Fou was already out of print) and decided that I wouldn't be satisfied until I have it in high definition.

I'm getting $30 for selling my DVD copy, so that goes toward the purchase to lessen the wallet blow.

Any "must-see" Criterion's on Hulu before my subscription runs out later this month? I've seen, Seventh Seal, Lord of the Flies, Ivan's Childhood and a few Kurosawa's.

Amazon has Last Year at Marienbad shipping in 7-11 days. Are the chances good they will actually ship when it's listed as so? (apologies if this has been asked already)

[Show spoiler]The bird in Le Samourai seems to become more excited and chirps in a rattled manner each time that it is featured in a scene. This may very well symbolize Jef Costello's predicament as he is increasingly trapped in the clutches of the police department. Jef Costello has always followed a rigid and structured routine to control his own destiny, but he is rattled when his fate is in someone else's hands (the police, as well as Valérie, when she has a choice whether or not to identify him at the police precinct, etc.).

Since that one doesn't have a release date set...maybe they'll be released at the same time.

Solaris is probably the best sci-fi film not named 2001. Enjoy it!

I'm rushing all the unseen Criterions off my free month in this last week too, and of about four or five "Must be curious about" titles, best one I saw was "Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages"
Which lures you in with German/Dutch silent-expressionist shots of actors prancing around in devil costumes, but turns out to make some surprisingly intelligent documentary points deconstructing the myths by comparing them to prewar social fears and the new interest in psychiatry in the 20's.

Only two or three left on my "They'll never show up on Netflix" list during the last week, with "Phantom Carriage" and "Madadayo" left to go. (The latter isn't exactly prime Kurosawa, but just so I can say I've seen everything since Kagemusha.)
Oh, and you have seen Modern Times, right?
