Hey that works, too! I would still love to see Waitress come out via Criterion, but I know it won't happen

I would honestly not be surprised to see a Criterion release of Howard the Duck. It would be fun to see Criterion push this one through as an "iconic overlooked classic" or something of the sort.

Would you shell out CC money for something like this or Ishtar?

Probably not, although I would love to read the Criterion essays for the films.

I thought Waitress was ok, but not really Criterion in the making, imho. Adrienne Shelley may have originated in Hartley's films, but her sensibility as a filmmaker is completely different.

Sunrise is my first MOC title. I am impressed, it is every bit the equal of a Criterion as far as transfer quality, packaging, supplements, etc. I am not region B capable (yet), and based on the quality of the MOC releases, I will be ordering City Girl and a few of their other region free titles soon.
i startet with Moc before criterion, actually im new to all this "classic movies"
both labels are doing good quality , great movies, nice booklets and interessting audio commentarys. and in both threads the community is always helping out with questions

Moc has even the better Harakiri release. (the criterion one is cropped)
but criterion got more kurosawa movies and i like to get them all on bluray. thats why i hope criterion will release some more of his movies that are only avaible on DVD currently or japanese bluray (but no english subs)

I think we would likely see "When A Woman Ascends The Stairs" first, as they released it on DVD, but I'd love to see "Floating Clouds" or just about any other of his films released...either on DVD or BD.

When I found out there were 4 Criterion blu rays going OOP, I immediately went online to buy them. Best option for me was to buy them out right from an ebay seller. BIG MISTAKE. Although the description said there was 10 of each available, I was only sent 1 of the 4 blu rays I purchased. Only after contacting the seller to find out where my other 3 discs were, I was told they are out of stock and of course now won't be re-stocked. So mad as of course since everyone knows they are OOP, everyone is selling them for ridiculous prices. Will order from amazon.com and eat the ridiculous shipping and duty charges for Canadians.

Anyway, be careful when purchasing OOP discs from ebay, especially from the seller BLOWITOUTAHERE

but only with OOP blurays maybe. i order most of my US releases from them (criterions too) since they ship way faster then amazon.com and price is most of the time better.

For me, it just cements him as the most important living director.
Agreed on most of it. I was disappointed by Badlands and The Thin Red Line's subject matter wasn't for me...so I took the most away from this film. I'm guessing you mean cut McAdams, and I would agree with that part as well. My most major complaint would be that the second half just felt like
[Show spoiler]a more revealing version of the first half.
So far though, I would say it's my favorite of them at the moment.

LOL, based on his username I would have avoided!

I'm glad to read something positive, and I appreciate your thoughts on the film. I'm looking forward to seeing To the Wonder this weekend, hopefully.

What are you a fascist? A film that questions our relationship to violence and war seems pretty weighty to me. Whereas Saving Private Ryan was all about celebrating the Good 'Ol Boys, which is perfectly fine because it was it was a just cause, The Thin Red Line dares to comment on it through Malick's innate pacifistic, naturalistic gaze. He eschews militaristic strategy for painting a portrait of a fractured nucleus. If the war stimuli isn't pleasing for you, dont worry Malick didn't intend it to be.

I personally feel that if Something Wild is in the collection, Waitress should be, too. It's a better candidate, in my opinion.

I had this same issue with Leon Morin. The seller was actually Barnes and Noble on ebay. When I bought it they said they had 4 available. 6 days later no shipping notification so I messaged them. They gave me some runaround about high demand. Well then don't say you have 4 available! Pissed. Hope it comes through on Amazon.

It's for 1) an unpredictable genre hopper, 2) it's ahead of it's time in exposing the hollowness of the modern American Dream. Sure, the genre trappings can make you forget, but this is very much a zeitgeisty film. Whereas later films like Fight Club (and even Vanilla Sky) resorted to confrontational, half baked notions on the matter, Something WIld is truly imbued with an anarchic and pointed sense of anti-establishment energy, without the pointless paper thin nihilistic stylings that lesser filmmakers like Aronofsky and Nolan would revel in.
