Come to think of it...a library card, a HULU and Netfix account is more valuable than a film school education...
Hard to network with hundreds of talented people when you are not in school. I learned a great deal from lectures though.

My subsequent post should have narrowed down what I was talking about: film knowledge. If your committed to reading and researching, that's the bulk of it.

Well, I had just made an order from B&N the day before these went on sale elsewhere, of course. But I couldn't resist the price, so I ordered some more from Amazon.

So here's my huge incoming list:

Barns & Noble:

Jubal
Pierre Etaix
Repo Man
3:10 to Yuma
On the Waterfront
Ultimate Gangsters Collection: Classics
(Thankfully I ordered a non-Criterion title, so I didn't 'lose' money on that one )

Amazon:

Something Wild
Sweet Smell of Success
The Great Dictator
In the Mood for Love
World on a Wire

Pretty excited. Of that entire list I've only seen Sweet Smell of Success and Petrified Forest from the Gangster set.

We do still have six unwatched Criterions on the shelf too, but we're watching at least part of one every single night, so they won't sit unwatched too long.

Criterions we watched this week:

Purple Noon, Stagecoach, Smiles of a Summer Night - Especially impressed with the last two.

Writing a few thoughts about each in my Letterboxd diary (nothing too in depth) and also keeping a list ranking my Criterion collection (just for fun). (I also posted a ranked list of Hitchcock films after iScottie did his here)

Ordered the 17 I needed from Amazon. Gonna be a LOT of viewing going on late at night!
Nice! That will be an awesome haul.

I'm going to take a chance on waiting to see if the July sale at Barnes & Noble happens. If it does not, then there will be other sales pretty soon.

For now, I've purchased over 50 Criterion Collection movies on Blu-ray over the past six months, and I'd like to go back and revisit a lot of them. There's a lot of awesomeness that needs more sittings to see in high definition. I'm itching to watch Army of Shadows, Le Cercle Rouge, Thin Red Line, and some others all over again. I also want to watch through the extras and commentary tracks for a lot of the titles that I did not previously own on DVD (Medium Cool, etc.).

I watched Five Easy Pieces from the America Lost and Found box set last night, and will probably review it tomorrow. I'm also finishing up season two of The Twilight Zone right now.

Uh I just went overboard with this sale:

Rosemary's Baby
Harakiri
M
Repulsion
The Band of Outsiders
Solaris
12 Angry Men
High and Low
Repo Man
The Double Life of Veronique
Badlands

I also got some more Melville Criterions DVD's:

Le Doulos
Le Deuxieme Souffle

Also I just watched Le Samourai and Harakiri and I loved them! Two movies with very amazing story lines.

After watching Solaris twice and seeing how awesome it looks, I wish criterion would release Stalker too.

My criterions from this sale:

videodrome
Qatsi trilogy
The Thin Red Line
Following
Solaris

Thinking of getting one more criterion: Godzilla or 12 Angry Men (never seen), or something else ( I have never seen any of the other criterion titles)

I love my Blu-rays of Ivan's Childhood and Solaris, and I'm really hoping to have the chance to upgrade my Stalker DVD someday.

I was watching Solaris on TCM and the speech was out of sync with the picture. It is not like this on the Blu-Ray, is it?

I would describe it as being like Donnie Darko, but more of a comedy.

Rough description, I realize, but it's a tough movie to easily describe .

Most CC titles have decreased to 19.99 but Lola Montes remains at 30. Come on Amazon!
