I don't think it's that doubtful, it is an IFC title. Have you seen it?

It's an excellent film! I desperately want to see it on BluRay sometime.

I just finished "Band of Outsiders" and I loved it. It was the second Godard film that I saw (besides Vivre Sa Vie). While I feel "Vivre Sa Vie" was stronger and more hard hitting, I did find this to be a very entertaining film!

The film is essentially one big, unrealistic fantasy, as the main characters have this grand idea to rob a rich old man after seeing so many Hollywood B-films. While most of it was very predictable, I think the execution was well done.

The only thing I really didn't like about this film was part of the ending. I mean
[Show spoiler]a man gets shot 5x in his chest and he is still about to walk. How unrealistic!

I'm definitely looking forward to checking out Breathless and Week End. I'm curious if these two have dancing, as well. It seems like Godard likes dancing, especially Anna Karina's dancing!

No, I haven't. However, it seems like a film that would be right up my alley.

I'm glad you enjoyed Band of Outsiders. If you liked both Vivre sa vie and Band of Outsiders I'd say you've passed the litmus test for 60s Godard. I personally think Godard kept getting better as he went on but I know that is not a common opinion. In fact I'd say Band of Outsiders is in his bottom 5 for me. It's not a terrible film, but he's made so many more that are far better. Breathless and Weekend are both great so here's hoping you like those as well. Breathless is more like Band of Outsiders but is less conventionally structured/formed. Weekend is one of his "political" films and not quite like any of the other three.

I'd be nice if Criterion released some of his post-60s films but I doubt it.

And it actually seems quite likely that Like Someone In Love will be released by Criterion. They released the last Kiarostami which was distributed by IFC. I wouldn't expect it until the first half of next year though.

I really enjoyed the narration in Band of Outsiders. I think it added nicely to the film's flow.

Stud Spider, Olive will be releasing two 70's Godard films later this summer.

I have seen most of his features from 60-69, but have not ventured past the decade. Considering my two favorite Godard films are 2 or 3 things I know about her and Weekend (Le Mepris is in the mix too), I've always had the feeling I would appreciate his more "heady" and "political" works.

Godard pretty much has contempt (no pun intended) for his early sixties films, right?

You should check out Cleo from 5-7 and Don't shoot the Piano player. I have a feeling you would like those two French new wave films

I also forgot that I had Le Mépris and Pierrot Le Fou. I'll have to check those out, as well.

Do you think Criterion will ever do an upgrade of 4 By Agnès Varda or Shoot The Pianist? Otherwise, I just may have to get the DVDs, as they sound great!

I'm confident they will release them, but I highly reccomend seeing not only Cleo but Vagabond aswell. I couldn't think of anything else for a week. It's such a harrowing, disturbing and enlightening film about an intelligent young homeless woman who chooses to drift aimlessly.

As for Godard, I can already bet that Weekend and Le Mepris might not be your thing. The latter is closer to, say, Last Year at Marienbad than Band of Outsiders.

If you do see Le Mepris soon, check out Mediterranee (directed by Jean-Daniel Pollet), it's basically the 30 minute film that inspired Godard.

If you mean Comment ça va? and Keep Your Right Up I've already got them pre-ordered. If you mean 2 different films then I would very much appreciate some follow-up information on that. Also, Keep Your Right Up is from 1987 (and is one of his best films).

I'd say if you enjoyed those you might like the three SonImage 70s films (Numéro deux, Ici et ailleurs and Comment ça va?). I haven't seen Tout va bien but I've heard it's in that same vein but a bit more cynical and angry (due to the political environment of the time and the Dziga Vertov Group films he was making during that time, I would assume) His films from the 80s on are surprisingly different from his earlier films. Far more poetic. I remember putting in Passion (1982) for the first time after having just completed his 60s films and the first image is of the camera pointing directly up into the sky with a few clouds. Very calm and beautiful. It really threw me for a loop. Nothing like the kineticism and probing framings, stagings and editing techniques of the 60s films. That isn't to say they're lighter fare than his earlier works. In most cases they are far more serious and deal with the subject matter in a far more complex manner. He just does it more efficiently, without making such a fuss.

After I watched Blow Out last month (05/05/2013), I dived into the supplements. From there, I viewed three interviews from Brian De Palma (nearly one hour), Nancy Allen, and cameraman Garrett Brown. Also, I seen all the gallery pictures (or photographs), all of them were black and white, on Blu-ray disc. As for Murder a la Mod, however, I didn't get around it yet, because it was getting late.

Anyway, the comments from three individuals was very interesting and lively in terms of the film-making, production, and acting. One of them Mr. De Palma touched on was the sound technique and technology incorporating with this movie; in my opinion, it was well ahead of time (i.e., before high technology like MP3 audio).

Did anyone get the chance to watch Blow Out supplements and extras?

Thanks Stud Spider, I will definitely seek those out. It's not that I don't enjoy early Godard, it's just that his more radical works always have a furious tension bubbling underneath. 2 or 3 things... firmly implicated me in the political and sociological turmoils of the late 60's more than any other film (yes, even the exceptional Medium Cool). You really have to put an effort in digesting all the non-sequiturs and visual symbolism (the swirling coffee cup is one of the definitive images of the 60's).

Yes! I've seen most of the supplements (the Steadicam inventor interview is a standout), but I still can't make it all the way through Murder ala Mod (2 tries now)

I generally agree. Mr. Garrett Brown provided greater details on the camera works for this movie. The running time was unfortunately was approximately fifteen minutes, and I wished the interview lengths in a range from 20 to 25 minutes if permitted.

Eventually, I'll get the opportunity to watch Murder a la Mod.

As I'm not currently in the US time zones I was asleep for much of the blind buy discussion, but loved waking up to pages and pages to read.

I've done my share of blind buying, I like doing it, and it's part of my collecting hobby. I always thoroughly research a film before blind buying. I'm also one of those people whose tastes matches up broadly and nicely with Criterion so I usually feel comfortable blind buying their releases from across a range of genres.

"Maybe I shouldn't breathe so much."

Can't wait for the announcements this month - I'm hoping for A Brighter Summer Day and Life Aquatic, as these would be fitting for end of summer releases, as well as either Tess or the Tenant. That would be sweet. I'm also holding out hope that Frances Ha will get a spine number. I saw it in the theater and really, really liked it.

yes, it's definitely worth it and holds your attention. I've seen it once - a Korean bootleg - and can't wait to get the Criterion blu. I'm going to watch it immediately upon arrival. Truly one of the most powerful movies I've ever seen.
