It’s amazing how certain film resonate with us so much during certain times of our lives, and then the fade as we get older. My film like this is Chasing Amy. Amy was my therapy for many years and that film that always spoke to me about life, women, and friends. The larger theme that Kevin was alluding to always spoke to me. Friendship is one of the most important things you can have, and at some point you have to get past your insecurities, as well as your ego.

And now that I am older, and figured a lot of that out, it's just not the same for me. It's still an incredible film, just doesn't speak to me as it once did.

I still think that clue is Frances Ha. Plus, Criterion releases contemporary IFC films all the time. Combine that with the fact that Frances Ha is long overdue for a Blu Ray release announcement, I still think its in Criterion's near future.

If we're going with foreign cinema, I'd like to see An Actor's Revenge released by Criterion. If they had the right elements it would look amazing. I got to see a 16mm scope print of it many years ago and that looked great, so I'm sure a blu ray by Criterion would look even better.

Agreed
They need to release titles that a lot of fans know that they have , make them happy and move to the next anticipated titles.
They have the Cronenberg movies, some Lynch films, some Hitchcock films ..so I hope they will announce them finally..there are lots of Le Samourai fans including myself - and month after month the requests go unnoticed. Its time to release some of their highly requested titles and be done with it already

I've been waiting a year and a half now for the Criterion rumored Thief (1981).

Totally off the wall wishes inspired by this or that...

What's Up, Tiger Lily? (recent post noting absence of Woody Allen)
The Woman in the Window (just learned this is held by MGM and not public domain)
Thief (speaking of MGM)
The Hunger (seriously, MGM, get on these)
Throne of Blood (this is usually Drunken Angel but somebody just mentioned Throne of Blood and it's awesome so Throne of Blood it is)
The Ghost and Mr Chicken (shut up, this is freaking awesome too)

The Woman in the Window, would love that one! Thief would be pretty sweet too.

2013 needs a new Kurosawa title . They've released at least one in the previous 4 years

2009 - Kagemusha
2010 - Seven Samurai and Yojimbo/Sanjuro
2011 - High and Low
2012 - Rashomon

I'd hope for Throne of Blood. That's one I actually thought was on blu ray and was going to buy, but found out it is not out yet.

I agree to some extent. They should release some of the titles that need the treatment (Passion of Joan of Arc, Andrei Rublev, Le Samourai, etc.) However, they should not have to cater to every person that whines month after month for a new Cronenberg title or a new Hitchcock, as much as they - or I - want it. The fact of the matter is, they're giving attention to films that have been OOP for quite some time and films that haven't even seen the light of day. That decision alone is a commendable. They can release a Nolan here and a Fincher there to up the numbers, but if they consistently released the more obvious, and, for the lack of a better term, mainstream releases, they wouldn't be the company they are now.

People are going to get the Cronenberg and the Lynch (be happy about this!) in due time. But Criterion are also going to get their hands on some titles that we more than likely wouldn't know of otherwise, and that's why I love 'em.

I used to get worked up about announcements from Criterion but not anymore. They have a wide library of films and the chances of getting something I would love to have (Mulholland Drive , In A Lonely Place) are slim when they dive into a lot of artsy foreign or cult titles that arent my cup of tea.

I wouldnt call it catering to them per se, but with the huge library of titles that they have it wouldnt hurt to please a good chuck of fans. Its not really catering to whiners (yes they do whine I agree) but these are paying customers. It does take patience. Eventually they will come out ( agree) but some titles they have sat on for a long time that I feel that they should already announce them, release them and move on. Ive waited 8 months for Foreign Correspondent...I wont hold my breath
A blu ray of Thief of Bagdad would be nice too ( I keep forgetting about that one)

I'm hoping for Throne of Blood, too; I saw it earlier this summer and really enjoyed it. Here's hoping! I'd also like to see Frances Ha (I've heard great things about it), and some more Powell and Pressburger film (I Know Where I'm Going! would be great).

Default Experimental Films

It has been a while since By Brakhage and A Hollis Frampton Odyssey have been released.

I would like to see an experimental collection of the films of Andy Warhol (Chelsea Girls, Empire, etc.)

Yes, Criterion can wait on releasing Tokyo Story for a while since I already got the Japanese version a few weeks ago.

Okay, I think I'm gong to call it a night, I doubled down on the Ambien tonght and everbodys posts look like they were handwritten. Many of your avatars are starting to movie around a little too. And that would be cool too but one or two have been giving me some strange looks.

oh, and The Bad Sleep Well would be pretty freaking cool. I normally have a bug for cop/doctor Mifune but I watched High and Low again recently and I'm kind hot for corporate Mifune now.
