I know. I was only joking about the 96-minute shot. There are a great many memorable shots in that movie for me, though.

Russian Ark is one single shot I believe. If I am not mistaken, it is all "take three".

A few impressions upon last night's viewing...
Do the French really have their blu-ray spines going in the opposite direction?

I'm not sure I'd ever consider rating a movie based upon the number of memorable shots. Regardless, I disagree.

I don't consider Seventh Seal to be one of Bergman's top 5 films, but it's a fantastic movie. So much wonderful stuff to choose from in his career.

Nevermind the fact that the knight playing chess with death is only one of the most iconic images in film history...

However, as you say, there's a shot that's so memorable it sticks with you so much that you don't even have to own the film to remember it, then, as I said, by logic, none of the films you do own have images so memorable, or else you could get rid of them too. Nice try, though.

Your trolling is reaching all new levels of tiredness, but luckily everyone can see through it.

Yes. Their books are that way as well. It's common in Europe.

I do not know about all French releases, but my copy is certainly in the opposite direction. Since it's a standard Amaray case, though, I can roll with it.

No. Hardly any of my European releases have their spines that way around.

Which reminds me...I still need to see my "backwards" copy of Twin Peaks FWWM. I pray I like it more the second time around

I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it, It grabbed me from the first frame to the last and I didn't even notice I had tears rolling down my face by the end of it.

10/10 for me, It instantly became one of my favorite Kubrick films.
I love Paths of Glory. For all those people who always thought Kubrick was a "cold" director (as in lacking emotion and human compassion in his films), then they are in for a rude awakening if they've never seen Paths of Glory. It is a very emotional film. Sometimes I wish Kubrick could have made more movies like that, before he was able to hone his craft and make the future masterpieces we all know.

If Ozu could see The Turin Horse, he might be envious.
I just bought The Turin Horse a few weeks ago on Blu-ray! I have yet to watch this. The Blu-ray got a very favorable review on here. I have to be ready to watch this very long-winded film though (from what I've read). Who else has seen this? And is it worth a blind buy? Because I blind-bought it. (I know this isn't a Criterion film, but this film could probably have easily been put out by Criterion).

I saw the DVD and decided to buy the Blu-ray. There is very little dialog. It's mostly music, sound and images in long takes as a man, his daughter and their horse try to exist.

I really loved it. I would offer my take, but Jon Rosenbaum nails it in his review:
http://www.jonathanrosenbaum.com/?p=28942

Note: the runtime is actually ten minutes longer than what is listed on the back of the BluRay cover.

So it's exactly 11 hours long?

Kidding. I've never seen it - or any Tarr, for that matter (something I intend to fix soon.)

I just bought here in Brazil a used (like new) copy of Last Year at Marienbad for $40. Was it a good deal?

Seems like a good deal. Can you sell it for more in Brazil? Sold mine and bought the Studio Canal (regions A & B).

When Play Time when out of print, I sold it and with the proceeds was able to cover the cost of the BFI's Play Time, Mon Oncle and Jour de Fete. I already had BFI's Las Vacances de M. Hulot, so am all set should I ever want to have a Tati marathon.

Thanks for all the feedback...sounds like mixed reviews to me. I intend to watch this in the near future. As a fan of Nietzsche, I was intrigued into buying this movie.
