The Bergman/Rossellini set also has a series of short films and alternate cuts of the films which used different transfers for each one, so more money was spent on it and therefor the cost is higher.
Again, its the content on the disc, not the discs themselves that determine the price.

*One of the supplemental features on the Criterion release is actually slightly longer than its French counterpart from the Pathe release. I am unsure exactly why - it has more/some mixed content.

And this finalizes my decision to blind buy this

Awesome! I absolutely can't wait to see it! Thanks, Pro-B!

I actually have a TCM recording of the film set for Monday, February 3, but I may just hold off so that I can see it for the first time in Blu-ray!

I messaged Jon Mulvaney three days ago or so in regards to the "The Night of the Hunter" listing on Amazon for an April 8, 2014 release date, but he has not responded yet.

Hopefully we sort it out soon.

I think that you should avoid any broadcasts and treat yourself properly, iScottie This isn't some cheap restoration, but a complete piece (audio/video) done from scratch, with Roman Polanski having supervised the entire restoration. When I picked up the Pathe release in 2012, I had the full treatment. You should do the same with this upcoming release

In the meantime, here's the restored trailer:

Thumbs up

Tess of the d'Urbervilles is one of the most depressing books I've ever read. A line about animals cowering together, waiting to be clubbed to death by people working in the fields scarred me for life. One disaster after another befalls poor Tess. I'd like the blu-ray but I don't think I have the stomach for it!

Man, I can't wait for Tess. I also just caved and ordered the Region B, 25-film Eric Rohmer set. $200 was a decent price, and I doubt these films will be getting any type of US release… maybe ever, lol.

The next flash sale will be on Criterion's 30th anniversary, imo.

Damn, I really, really, REALLY want to get Tess, but I won't allow myself to buy anything that has to do with Roman Polanski.
