I don't have the Second Sight 3-disc DVD, though I have an Umbrella (Australia) 2-disc edition that unfortunately doesn't include the theatrical cut. I only have the theatrical cut on a full-frame Japanese LD. Quote:
I just received the Warner Archive Blu-ray of Fearless. I'm looking forward to watching it, though I'm too busy until after the weekend. Not one of his better films, but interesting nonetheless. The 10-year-old Home Vision DVD (still available from Amazon) also includes Weir's 1979 made for (Aussie) TV suspense thriller The Plumber. |

The Cars That Ate Paris is entertaining, but it doesn't compare to some of his other movies. To be honest, while I was watching it I would occasionally think that the best part of the movie was the title.

I'm snowed in another 8 inches here oh joy...That flash sale would of been fun to do on a day like this oh well.
I May watch Battle of Algiers or Missing tonight. OT: has anyone bought the Twilight Time Blu of Sexy Beast? I liked their release of The Driver so was thinking of buying that one too. |

Snow here as well. Watched four titles (two I've seen before). Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (rewatch but first watch on blu) is just amazing. Beautiful restoration as well. Both sound and picture are top notch. Ivan's Childhood surprised me - I didn't love it as much as I thought I would and I would never go back to it for a repeat viewing. Gorgeous cinematographer as expected, though.
Wings of Desire I've seen before but I felt like something poetic and this obviously delivers. It isn't Wenders' best but it's a beautiful love letter to Berlin. La promesse was just amazingly well told. I loved the father/son dynamic and the actions taken by the son when he begins to see the light about his decisions. Well acted but the picture quality left a lot to be desired. There were several instances were pixel noise (white dots) crept their way in. There's actually one dot that stays near the center bottom of the screen throughout the entire film and it was a little bothersome. But ultimately it did not take away from this wonderful film that I would have never seen had it not been for Criterion putting it out there for us. |

The soundtrack is outstanding. It probably contributed to the somewhat-futuristic feel back in the day, but it just comes across well on its own terms now. |

I watch it about once every 2 months, give or take. The setting is great, the score is great and the threat of ambush is present in over half the movie. The score frequently gets you ready for trouble and reminds me of Escape from New York (If my memory serves correct, I might be totally off base there) which was another excellent movie.
Another interesting Michael Beck movie is Battletruck. There is a double feature with the so horrible and hokey it's actually entertaining Deathsport featuring David Carradine. (He runs around for half the movie with a freaking clear plastic sword for a weapon for crying out loud!), not to mention the very obvious "whoops" stunt gone wrong that made the final cut. If release day is tomorrow, (which I hope it is) hopefully they'll announce another Eclipse Series. I know they're DVD and they don't have all the extras and fancy packaging but damn... I love those sets.
Also, if they finally get The Life Aquatic upgraded, that'd please a lot of people, both the lovers who are waiting for it and the haters who are sick of hearing everyone ask for it each month! |

Is it, though? I'd assume President's Day to be among the more popular for people not having to go into work. Certainly moreso than Labor, Columbus, and Veterans Day at the end of the year.
