#100,000!

What other Alfred Hitchcock Criterion Blu-rays do you think we'll see within the next year or so?

What are the chances of Warner Brothers licensing their other Hitchcock titles similar to "Foreign Correspondant"? I'd love to see "Suspicion", "I Confess", "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", "Stage Fright" and "The Wrong Man" in HD!

I could be delusional but I swear I saw something that said CC had at least 1 or 2 of his silent films in the works. Or am I just making that up?

Watched Wild Strawberries last night... Bergman is possibly my favorite director.

I believe Rialto currently has the US rights to the nine BFI-restored Hitch films, and they're partnered with Criterion, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a box set in the future.

That might be a pretty brilliant idea. Ripley is a very interesting character that can be very hard to get a handle on. I've read several of the novels and I would still have to stammer and search for the right words if I were to try to describe him to somebody.

Ripley might be a harder sell these days in the Dexter/Hannibal era of flat-out, no-two-ways-about-it socio/psychopathic anti-heroes but a series could be still be the perfect vehicle for him.

These two films have always been closely related in my mind since I first saw them around the same time, they are both Scandinavian films, and they share a similar atmosphere.

Another Scandinavian film from that same era that I love (and that I would group with Insomnia and The Vanishing) is Nightwatch / Nattevagten. I have a R2 dvd of that film, but I wouldn't mind a Criterion upgrade.

Also, am I the only one who hates the new cover art for the Insomnia BD release? I wish they would have just gone with something similar to the theatrical poster:

A little over a week ago a friend and I were talking about tv shows and got onto Nordic noir (The Killing, The Bridge, etc). I saw him a few days later and said 'hey, I forgot to mention this the other day but speaking of Nordic noir Criterion will be releasing a BD of Insomnia'. He said 'whoa, cool, that's an awesome movie, you know what else they should release' and I knew without any doubt he was going to say The Vanishing.

Which he did.

Criterion should run a 50% off sale to celebrate.

No, you're not making that up. I do recall seeing something about Criterion doing more of Hitchcock's early films, but I don't think there were any details about which films were being considered.

There are at least five unlikely candidates, as StudioCanal has the rights to the current restorations of them, and therefore Lionsgate would have the North American rights. Those would be The Ring, The Manxman, Murder!, The Skin Game, and Rich and Strange.

For what it's worth, there are four early Hitch films that Criterion released on LD way back when, but never released on DVD. Those might be the likeliest suspects: Blackmail, Secret Agent, Sabotage, and Young and Innocent.

Actually, the Rialto catalog is owned by StudioCanal. That's why the 10 Years of Rialto Pictures DVD set and most (eight out of the eleven) of the individual films included in it are OOP from Criterion.

The Vanishing is not a Scandinavian film. Saying The Netherlands is in Scandinavia is like saying Missouri is in New England.

DVDPlanet have some good deals right now. Even with shipping to Canada it worked out the same as the B&N sale plus and extra $3.
