![]() The FILM is the most important factor but the extras are important and this cover has thrown the film off my "will 100% buy" list. Agree / disagree it really does not matter ![]() |

I'm not saying that you need to love the artwork, but if there's a film that you love and want to own, to NOT buy it because you don't like the cover seems utterly ludicrous to me. Obviously to each their own...

Speaking of which, it's a shame that Criterion chose not to put out Jean-Pierre Melville's Le doulos and Le deuxieme soufflé. I think this was around the time when Criterion hadn't completely moved over to blu-ray. As I recall certain titles would only come out on dvd and others would come out on both. ![]() Last edited by dtyner92; 05-17-2014 at 05:47 PM. |

My Criterion Priorities:
1. A movie I like, or probably will like 2. Good transfer 3. Good extras 4. Packaging I've never had packaging prevent me from buying a Criterion release, but I guess some here just have a different set of priorities. |

For the wonderful PQ and audio transfer and of course the special features. These all come first to me. Don't get me wrong, the artwork can also be a big selling factor for me. But if I love the movie and and the likely hood of Criterion putting out another version of it with different artwork is extremely low, I would just jump on it!

Yes the films are important, but so is the artwork which a designer has put so much hard work into creating. Also if I'm buying the best version of something, I expect the ENTIRE package to be 100% the best it can be, especially when paying a large amount. That is something Criterion tries to do, so it is disappointing when they let something slip, be it, artwork, picture quality, sound quality, special features etc etc Last edited by Polaroid; 05-17-2014 at 05:59 PM. |

One reason people buy Criterions is because they are collectible and amazing to have on shelf and to admire, if the artwork is pretty weak and poor it can put people off having it as the packaging isn't as easy to admire - plus they may have another copy of the film. Don't judge people - we all like different things and do things differently. |

It doesn't look finished, the design they have used is a really quick trick which looks nice when used right,t his isn't used well.
The typography on the newest is awful especially compared to original one I posted and tt just looks incredibly rushed and a tad generic, doesn't feel finalised or up to the Criterion standards. It just needs to be pushed more design wise, its a good start but needs a lot more work to look finalised... I think removing he car image thats overlaid on top would improve it A LOT, just looks like something done at University level design lol Also - look at the designers other work - its SO much better and more professional looking.
