I certainly hope not.

I'm sure the films in WCF V2 will be fine, but I can't imagine anything other than Edward Yang's film having replay value for me.

Obviously this is a premature assumption, but I am basing it off of how I liked WCF V1.

Isn't there some sort of hang up with the WCF 2 rights? Has MOC announced another set?

Gosh, I hope not. A Brighter Summer Day deserves a single release. I would be gutted if they do that to this wonderful film (no offense to those films that are volume 1).

What is this online film club you speak of? I've seen you mention it before. I am interested in learning more. How does that work exactly?

I saw Leone's name mentioned in the "explore" section on the Criterion site but no films were listed.

This would be a perfect film for the collection!!!
The extended cut is coming out at the end of the month from Warners.

Lionsgate has the rights to StudioCanal's titles now and they've decided that Amazon exclusive MOD DVD-Rs is the way they are going to release them.

Maybe there will be an English friendly release in Europe, but a US Blu-ray isn't happening.

Not yet... On a side note, I am going to wait until the "Dollars" trilogy is released in 2015, so all 3 movies are available as restorations/remasters. I do realize that Once Upon A Time in the West was his 3rd to last film and not part of the trilogy or quadrilogy though.

It's a must-see, IMO. If for no other reason, to see Henry Fonda as the polar opposite to his other western characters.

Actually, Leone once said in an interview that his movies were divided in two trilogies, The Dollars Trilogy and The Once Upon a Time Trilogy (including Once Upon A Time in the West, Duck You Sucker and Once Upon a Time in America). However these trilogies are only thematically related and can be viewed in any order.

Henry Fonda's character in Once Upon a Time in the West is one of the greatest villains in cinema history.

A pivotal sequence early in the film really scared me to death during my childhood. I was eight or so, and I just happened to watch that scene when I was flipping channels and saw it on TBS SuperStation. For months after that, I kept freaking out about the possibility of people coming out of the woods behind our house and killing me and my family.

I love the movie now, and it's one of my favorites. In retrospect, though, that scene was a pretty screwed-up thing for an eight year-old kid to watch by accident.

The buzz was MoC had a rights issue that has delayed their second volume. If I remember correctly MoC shared their intention to issue these on an annual basis whereas CC didn't make any cooments at all. Don't know if the rights issue caused a delay (if there was a delay) for Volume 2 from CC. I know ABSD has been rumored for a while from CC; as far as I know, preceding the WCF program. But as ABSD is part of WCF's restoration catalog, don't see any reason for it not to be part of these collections.

Not Criterion-related, but I hope that all of you check out the new Blu-ray release of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). It's a marvelous presentation of a movie that is finally earning the prestige that it deserves. Here is my review.

Criterion-related...
My viewing of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre whet my appetite for more early David Cronenberg stuff. The Brood is an entirely different sort of film, but it has a great rough-around-the-edges feel in the way that those 1970s horror films do.

Actually, a Criterion Blu-ray upgrade of Carnival of Souls might be more in line. Maybe even a Criterion Blu-ray upgrade of Equinox.

Carnival of Souls is one of the eeriest films to ever be made. It's up there with Don't Look Now for me in terms of horror.

We really need both out on Blu-ray and sooner than later.

Yes (as well as the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film), although it actually tied with Apocalypse Now.

I'm guessing that you didn't like it.
