It is made to look like one take, and it's mostly pretty obvious where the cut is. That said, I'm sure there were several cuts that weren't obvious and I didn't even notice.
Hilarious? wow, must be different to his previous work! haha

Modern Times is my favorite. There is so much depth to that film.

Thank you octagon and adamhopelies!

I got a "very good" copy for $11 - figured it be worth my time and also the 1100 pennies.

anyone else have any thoughts on versions or their experience w/ this set?

+1 It's the first Chaplin I ever saw, and remains my favorite.

My favorite Charlie Chaplin film is still the 1925 version of The Gold Rush.

The Gold Rush showcases Chaplin's physical comedy brilliance and it benefits from location settings that add to the hilarity, but it also has its share of poignant moments.

you cant go wrong with the criterion chaplins , the video quality is outstanding ! they are loaded with bonus features that are a pure joy.

Monsieur Verdoux is a chaplin movie without his iconic figure "the tramp".

i would start with Modern Times or City Lights

Mine as well, for the reasons you mention.

Almost every single scene in the cabin had me laughing to the point that I was crying. Excellent film!

I saw a screening of the new Dardenne brothers film "Two Days, One Night" at the Chicago International Film Festival last night. Terrific experience. One of the best films I've seen this year. The movie rests on Marion Cotillard's shoulders, and her screen presence is as vital, and magnetic as ever. Moving, authentic, great performance. The film, itself, as well.

I would love to see this released by Criterion. They do have a strong relationship with the Dardennes, so I hope it's possible. BTW, it starts releasing in theaters here in the US in December.

Also this was the first time I've attended any film fest screening, and will definitely have to do more next year. Fun atmosphere, and simply great to see a foreign film with a packed audience instead of the usual five or ten others scattered about in a theater.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

I have sadly not been to a film festival, as most seem to take in the big cities (far removed from me). I do really want to see Two Days, One Night, though, as I admire The Dardenne Brothers and I think Marion Cotillard is one of the current best actresses in the business.

While the topic of film festivals is fresh, how would everyone rank the top 5 or 10 film festivals in the world, in order of importance/prestige?

For what it's worth, I really admire Cannes and I would love to go at some point in my life.

Like hang out, or go to films?

I think Cannes is industry only...

I would love to travel to France at some point in my life. I would also like to attend the Cannes Festival to see several of the feature films at one point or the other.

You do raise an interesting point and now that you mention it, I believe I have read somewhere that it is industry only.

I've always loved Sundance and pretty happy it came to London!

Cannes has always been for me the most prestigious but recently I feel its lacked that quality, TIFF and Berlin for me are equal but I think they are doing better than Cannes atm (imo)!

I'd happily go to any though!

Palm D'or for me is the best award tbh, I have NEVER been let down by a film that has the Palm D'or. I also LOOOOOVE Lars Von Triers Persona Non Grata lol

When I majored in Film, the school wouldn't let me minor in journalism because it was technically in the same "school." So I had to go for an English minor instead, even though I worked as a journalist for several years before and after college, lol.

Wow, that is pretty crazy. Communications, Film Media, Journalism, PR, and Writing are all in the same sub-division of my college.
