With the Borat 2 trailer hitting today, I really wish that the rumors were true that Criterion would be releasing the first film.

Someone even made this really good trailer to include the Criterion logo.

Thanks a lot. You just ruined Psycho for me.

I found this on IMDB, for what it's worth:

Code:
What kind of rocking chair swivels around like that?

[Show spoiler]The chair in which Norman's mother sits is an old fashioned desk chair, not a rocking chair. The light moving back and forth on her face is not from the chair rocking but from the light bulb swinging over the corpse's head.

Interesting. I'll have to take a closer look upon my next revisit. Thanks!

Speaking of sequels, Chinese authorities have approved the production of a project written by Wong Kar-wai, curiously titled Chungking Express 2020. The synopsis states that at least a portion of the film will take place in 2036, where "young Xiao Qian and May are unwilling to be held back by genetic partnerings, and insist on finding their own ‘destiny’.”
Something from the MUBI newsletter, to get us excited for the rereleases.

Criterion sale is over at DeepDiscount, darn it, I wanted to buy some more titles.
Does anyone know why the thread dedicated to this in the deals forum has disappeared?

It just got moved to the dead deals forum: https://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=139

Also, I wouldn't despair. I'm confident there is a Criterion flash sale just around the corner.

Other companies did the latter. Glad the current releases, including that crazy 6-Disc, regarding Apocalypse Now completely abandons this revisionist malarkey and goes for OAR.
The rationale used didn't even make much sense. I posted a few brief thoughts on it a while back.

2.00:1 has become popular for "cinematic" television as it bridges the gap between 16x9 and 2.35:1, but the whole Univisium thing was mostly nonsense.

Oh man, Scorsese was just on TCM to introduce the Criterion/Film Foundation restoration of La Strada. Don’t think I’ve ever heard Criterion referenced so prominently on the network. (Also, didn’t have the usual solo Criterion title card, but a dual one with CC and the Film Foundation.)

Anyway, just watched for a sec but looked great.

BORAT trailer (2006) - Re-Released via The Criterion Collection - YouTube
I'd be curious to know how Borat is able to get away with this since everyone knows by now this was a legendary character he created a while ago. I'll be super curious to see who he fooled this time around (unless this was all or mostly staged).

One had the insert quite crooked. They literally look like they come from a sale bin.
It's a bit of a downer as a part of the pleasure in buying these is seeing them all shiny and new in their shiny wrap and sticker.
Their packaging standards(crucial for disc and books sellers) has been suspect to say the least. I won't buy from them after my last transaction. The packaging for the recent Paramount release of 'Airplane!' caused the slip cover to get bent and dinged up beyond belief. Others on the forum have had similar experiences.

You really think the demographic he targets would ever watch his output?

Agreed. Univisium doesn't make much sense and is a load of rubbish. Practically grasping at straws for their reasoning. Pity Bertolucci passed away in 2018 and the Extended TV Cut isn't on a separate disc, only the DVD release is. Only other film I've seen of his are 1900 aka Novecento, Little Buddha, and The Dreamers. Thankfully didn't confuse him with Giuseppe Tornatore.
Glad Coppola didn't allow Storaro to meddle with the aspect ratio for Apocalypse Now, for the BD and 4K releases, but it's been a really long time since I've last watched REDS. The latter has been long OOP from my understanding.
Other media releases which use that aspect ratio natively I've no issues with.

Cool purchase dmabuse, unfortunately I think bullmoose does not ship internationally, if I remember correctly (it does not seem to allow me to open the site now to check).
Fail Safe and The War Of The Worlds are on my maybe list actually, while I already own the other two.

But it had happened. Previous DVD releases of AN, including the 3-disc Complete Dossier set were in Storarovisium. It was for the blu-ray release that the OAR was restored.

I think you are now referring to DeedDiscount's mailing, not the shrinkwrapping/stickering issue of Criterion releases I purchased?

As nobody mentioned anything about Criterion-store sold items without their blue stickers (unless I missed those posts?) my only gripe was that.

While sometimes DD's parcels are not superb, they have IMO far surpasses amazon and still provide more protection that the crappy orange soft-paper+blubblewrap used by amazon.
In addition if it's more than 3 discs they will always use nice boxes for them.
Sad about your slipcover, sometimes they don't arrive in mint condition. Was it the Paramount Presents version?

Indeed. I don't know the full background, but I recall reading that Coppola regretted agreeing to the revision. And as you say, subsequent releases reverted to the OAR.

I should've put that the OAR was restored especially for the BD and especially the 4K release. Left out that detail. It's a wonderful 4K release. Edited the post.
Did The Leopard have it's aspect ratio altered for the USA Criterion BD (some others too maybe)? Was kind of researching about it since I might rent it from DVD Netflix if they carry it.
