I'm just hoping the Lubitsch movies and Caesar and Cleopatra in particular get releases from someone at this point.

I'd love to see the Kobayashi set on Blu-ray.

Fassbinder, Kobayashi, Ray, Oshima, and the Kurosawa’s are my picks.

Although now I’m curious about watching the Caesar & Cleopatra movie!

I hope that Criterion picked up Klimov's Rasputin film Agony.

The Devil and Daniel Webster has been restored and will "rerelease later this year". Yes, please.

I'm going to most likely blind-buy Deep Cover because Lawrence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum are basically 2 of my favorite actors (out of a whole bunch). Goldblum looks super cool in this one.
I bought Chop Shop in Feb criterion flash sale and watched Man Push Cart in criterion channel, both are brilliant.

I too am currently a film student and I have people asking me why I'm not watching the newest Hollywood blockbusters, even though I tell them they're of no interest to me. People like to think they have a better taste than you and when you study something, it's even more of a self-confidence booster for them if they can say "You haven't seen this?" I watched the newest Mortal Combat movie and hated it, I thought it was a dull, CGI mess of an action movie and everyone thought I was crazy at my workplace for saying I didn't care for it, one guy even said "Why do you go to film school if you didn't even like it?". If I were in your shoes, I'd just go for what looks good to you! I take recommendations from others, but typically unless it really interests me, I'll get what I want instead. As you take classes, you'll discover more and more films of significance from throughout history, but for now I'd say to focus on what you can learn from that also sounds like fun to watch.

Those Latin American and Argentinian noirs sure sound interesting. Criterion, Kino, anyone?

The article doesn't say anything about that film?

This part:

MacQueen said he also restored other notable films such as the 1934 Mexican horror film “El fantasma del convento” and most recently the 1941 film “All That Money Can Buy,” which will rerelease later this year. In addition, MacQueen said The Archive has partnered with organizations including Outfest, the Sundance Institute and the International Animated Film Association to acquire and restore classic films.
All That Money Can Buy is what the title was changed to upon its release.

As someone who unabashedly loves the 1995 one (it's fun and gets it mostly right), the new Mortal Kombat is pretty forgettable and confusing. Frankly the more about film you know, it gets harder and harder to satisfy someone. You see the flaws, you know the formula, etc. But once you find something truly unique or evocative, you cherish it more I find.

Flicker Alley, I believe, are supposed to have them which could mean we could be waiting a while for them.

I have no beef with those who love any version of a Mortal Kombat film, it's just not for me. I think what got to me was that someone said I shouldn't be a film student if I didn't appreciate a film they liked. I study films and even I don't take it seriously enough to tell someone they are lesser than for not liking what I like.
