I have the Studio Canal version and it is a very good alternative for anyone looking to get The Third Man. Yeah, I'd rather have the Criterion version myself, but I didn't get into the Criterion Blus from the start, so I missed out on it before it went out of print. Same with Pierrot. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with either version, in my opinion.

They released multiple versions of dvd's. Why not blu's. I hope it comes back to their collection or i'll be forced into buying the Studio Canal version once's its like 14.99

Do you not understand that Criterion can only release films that the studios will allow them to license? It's not up to Criterion. If a studio decides they don't want to renew their licensing contract with Criterion then those titles specified in the contract are going to go OOP from Criterion. Criterion can hope and wish all they want for which films they'd love to release, but if a studio isn't willing to license Criterion the film then they are S.O.L. Criterion isn't a big, financial powerhouse studio like Warner Brothers, Universal, Studio Canal, etc. so I'm sure they have to carefully calculate how much money they're going to put toward certain film projects and toward obtaining the distribution rights to future film releases.

So, after holding both The Seventh Seal and Yojimbo in my hands for countless minutes, standing in one place like a douche, I pulled the trigger on The Seventh Seal. I know that I'll get Yojimbo eventually, maybe as a Christmas gift with Sanjuro, so I'm not too worried about it. Now, I am waiting for my Modern Times and The Thin Red Line to come in, and before I know it, my Videodrome will ship too.

Pre-ordering on Criterion is like a 13 year old looking at porn. Premature......shipping, which in the case of shipping, it's a good thing. Now on the 13 year old, you might want to get a doc's opinion on that.

I order from Criterion all of the time and always get my package BEFORE release day. Also when you spend $500 (don't have to all at once now), you get a $50 gift card.

I watched The Seventh Seal this morning, and I heartily recommend it. If you like Bergman, you're certain to enjoy it.

Yeah, I enjoyed The Magician immensely, which is why I got The Seventh Seal. I'm about to watch it now.

God I hope they release Carnival of Souls on blu-ray. The DVD was great, but the blu would be awesome.

Well, the Dazed and Confused (DVD) is on lightning deal at Amazon right now for $8.99. Nice thick Criterion package too. Click on link and then lightning deal on the upper right.

Oh, and my collection says that she's very fond of you as well. She's a lush, so I'll have to talk to her in private soon. Anyway, I also admire your collection, even if you only got 16 movies. It's a lot better than most of the collections I see on here, actually. And yeah, getting M should be a top priority for you.

Thanks for the input. Well, we talked about The Magician a few days ago, and I ended up buying that. I really enjoyed it, which is why I'm considering Berman's other movie.

But I watched Seven Samurai for the third time last night, and I realized that beside Ran, I don't have any other Kurosawa films, and I heard how good Yojimbo was. I heard that Sanjuro was only okay, which is why I'm mainly focused on Yojimbo. But yeah, that's where I'm at right now.

Thanks, guys.
Hi Greek,

We actually appear to have very similar collections. I would suggest you pick up White Ribbon now as it is currently on sale at Amazon for only $15.

I'm not that surprised that someone got it (or is getting it delivered now) since it's only a week or so.....

but....

Given the fact that it's Ebay, I hope it's a reputable seller..... I'd be concerned about a title on Ebay being released early, cheaper than available anywhere else.....
