Don't they also have The Lower Depths? Red Beard too I'm pretty sure. Maybe The Idiot too. The former two have blu rays in Japan too.

I think it's a very reasonable expectation, unless we suddenly get a new Kurosawa blu ray announced in the coming months...

I think I read somewhere that Criterion probably has to wait for Japanese physical releases of the new scans (someone correct me if this is incorrect). Japan isn't really pushing UHD's, so maybe the 4k masters will result in new edition blu rays in Japan. Or maybe they will be UHD's. Maybe Criterion has to wait for one or the other to press forward with a box, assuming they want to use the new scans (which I hope they do). Since the blu rays came out well over a decade ago in Japan, I think new releases are probably for soon anyway.

It is that. I’m sure I ruined some lives (or at least appetites) by getting somewhat unsuspecting friends to join me at midnight showings back in the day.

After seeing Great Expectations on TCM last night it reminded me that the two Lean/Dickens titles are long overdue.

The 2 dvd upgrades I most want from Criterion are Trouble in Paradise and The Devil and Daniel Webster.

As is Hobson’s Choice which, while not Dickens, has a definite Dickensian feel to it.

If they upgrade Wong Kar Wai's works to 4K editions, I hope we get some individual releases. I just want a standalone 4K release of 'Chungking Express'. It's not that I don't like WKW's other films, but that's the one I really want to own and revisit. So I didn't go in for that box set.

Huh.

It would have never even dawned on me to judge somebody by the size of their collection. If anything, shouldn’t the quality of films owned, and not the sheer volume, be the illuminating point?

I can peruse somebody’s physical media library to see what they enjoy. What genres they love, which directors resonate with them. From that, I can find a commonality with them. When I see someone posting, being able to view their collection gives me a bit of perspective where they’re coming from.

I could have probably made it another five years on here, and not known that was a thing.

Frankly I put mine on here to keep track of what I have or don’t have at a glance. My memory isn’t what it probably never was in the first place so it’s pretty handy to have access to. I started when I probably had maybe a hundred plus titles so it’s been pretty easy to maintain. It’s not like I have daily deliveries from multiple disc companies coming in. (I wish!)

Absolutely. That’s a part of the reason I do it, too.

On more than one occasion, the iPhone’s app has saved me from buying something a second time.

I’ve got lots of stuff that probably gets that reaction. Still, films like King Kong vs Godzlla remind me of sitting in a theater eons ago as a kid.

Same. Now if I could just get my music cataloged, which is way more difficult.

Jon Mulvaney confirmed they weren't going to release one. And after seeing a great comparison video, I'm going to stick with the OOP Chungking Express and In the Mood for Love Blu-rays. I think I'll stick to his other films through the Criterion channel.

I have mine on discogs. I can't afford LP's, I just have a small amount bought way back in the 80's but haven't listed them, so I still buy CD's. I'm near 2,000 but used to have +3000. Got rid of the bloated parts of the 'must have them all' mentality. Thusly lots of greatest hits went bye-bye!

I wish I wasn't on a fixed income. Every time I read posts about box sets, like the forever mentioned Kurosawa, I scream shut up shut up shut up(!) because I can't afford them. A nice single release of his, or any directors in a box set, films would be appreciated thank-you-very-much.

I had SS disability back pay a few years ago and that's the only reason I was able to grab a giant amount of Criterion's and the Zatoichi, Three Colors and Apu trilogy sets. The only other one I have is the Tati box, and that was a mistake on a B&N Black Friday sale where they had a glitch for about 1/2hr, and I was able to grab the box set at $42.

The Bergman box, of course, came out after the 6 months "spend all your money" deadline they give, but I was able to purchase the Film trilogy when it came out through Christmas cash.

And tatterdemalion lived happily ever after...(long-winded tales must always end this way)

Yup this 100% happened to me, and continues to happen in general. People on this site love to put themselves on pedestals when they're looking to put someone else down for totally unrelated reasons and use their collection size and/or contents, time since joining Blu-ray.com, being subscribers to certain Retailers/Boutiques, etc as a "holier than thou" start off point. I've even been judged for owning/not owning certain movies and it's like ok and? Did you pay for them?

Also no offense but quality of films shouldn't be something to judge someone by either tbh. Like I'm over here crying about a lack of Pink Flamingos 4K release. And some people have like the complete Fast & Furious Family Saga so to each their own.

I know a dude who loves Showgirls as much as I do, except he owns like every release of it and I only own the original slipcover Blu-ray "titty disc" release (the current 4K releases have colors that suck, so I haven't upgraded). I saw someone once make a disparaging comment on his collection based on that and one other thing and I'm like way to waste 3 minsof your life to look at someones collection to make a snide comment and make yourself feel better about whatever shortcoming you have (whether you realize it or not).

Gatekeeping will always exist with any hobby. Just don't let it get to you because it's literally sad that someone chooses to be an a*shole about it.

I really want to add my digital collection on here since some have had movies pulled by retailers and I feel like that might help keep track, but I can't imagine logging that many movies in at this point.
[Show spoiler](especially when adding just one Blu-ray kicks those weird OCD/anxiety spurts into high gear- but I'd otherwise be uncomfortable since it does help me keep track of the Blu-rays I do own.)
