Well...no Cronos for Wed...looks like a Bergman night.

FYI...I just realized that NetFlix had made Cronos available to stream...very cool...that will get me and others by for now!

Have you seen inception before? Is there anything you can compare it to? I think I'll rent it rather than blind-buy it, but it's tempting.......

Part Matrix, part Marienbad.

It's better than the Matrix but not as good as Marienbad (certainly not as hypnotic).

I just blind bought Inception, but only because I had a gift card to use. Hopefully it is as good as people say.

I don't often see movies in theaters, much less more than once. This year I saw 2 movies in theaters twice, and Inception was one of them (Toy Story 3, the other). If you're a Nolan hater, I don't think you'll like this one. If you like a crazy nonsensical challenge that's fun to watch and discuss, you'll love it.

I've really liked most of his movies. I actually don't see many movies in the theaters myself, which makes me feel better about buying things blind (even though I don't do it often). I figure it would cost about $18 for my wife and I too see a movie in the theater, so the blu isn't too bad.

On a Criterion note, I am really excited to check out Cronos, but decided not to buy it yet since I am still catching up on my BN purchases.

FINALLY got my copy of The Night of the Hunter in the mail from Barnes and Noble, the last of the Criterion sale from last month. Hopefully I have time tonight to watch it.

Here's what I don't understand about "Inception." So many reviewers and critics and other nobodies on the internet kept going on and on about how "cerebral" it was... or, how if you didn't pay attention in the beginning you'd never catch-up as the movie went along. So, here I went into the theater thinking that this was really gonna give my brain a workout.... hardly at all, I'd say. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before, and while I enjoyed "Inception," I still found it to be a "thinking person's movie" for the mainstream audience. The movie pretty much walked you through everything, I thought, so that you wouldn't have to think. It's like we know that most of the action is taking place while this group of people is dreaming, but the movie keeps jumping out of the dream to show us that they're actually dreaming in the real world.

You write this like it's a bad thing, rkish. Which Bergman arrived... "Sawdust And Tinsel"? It's kind of like a Fellini movie and Bergman movie.

You never commented about "The Fallen Idol," either. Did it ultimately leave you dry, or kind of 'meh'?

i'm going to steal your idea and plant an inception of it in my mind so i think it's my own idea

I finished up The Thin Red Line last night and oh my god this is my Blu-Ray of the year hands down. This is one of my favorite films and it was such a jaw dropper, the sound and picture are just stellar. I've seen it in the theaters twice and own it on Laserdisc and dvd. Other than watching it in the theater at the Coronet in San Francisco this Blu-Ray viewing experience was amazing.

More like Matrix (which I dislike by the way) meets The Prestige (which I like). Nolan's own movie to compare it to is better, and Marienbad doesn't explain nothing. Inception was quite clear. Tell me what Marienbad was about again?

Which can keep something going today, which of the many ways of thinking what Marienbad was about, do you like? The "rape" angle is the one that I feel the most while re-watching.

I see no reason at all to buy this movie as it has virtually zero rewatchability value.
Rent it.

Inception is amazing. The critical acclaim for it is well-deserved. It's pretty much the smartest blind-buy you can get.

Off topic: seeing Enter the Void tonight, anyone here seen it? The people I know in real life just said "ITS CRAZY MAN" and on Mubi opinions are all over the place.
It is not the greatest film and probably my least favorite Noe, but it is visually unbelievable and a true treat to the eyes. It was worth the price of admission to be able to see it on a big screen -- I don't really have an interest for a home viewing.

That is like saying "It's the best movie you have never seen!", which I would disagree with.

This is exactly why I don't read reviews about movies before I watch them. It would be ideal to not see trailers, but that would never work. If I could just know a general genre/mood going into a film, (especially foreign,) that would be perfect.

Why wouldn't that work? I don't see trailers for most of the movies I see for the first time. The only thing I know about Inception, is who directed it (I don't even know who's in it ) and it has something to do with "Dream world/sequences" and that is just from reading this thread
