Never heard of one expiring. I usually just add them to my account and let it sit there as an available credit until my next order -- usually just have to remember to click the right buttons during checkout to make sure it's included as part of the payment for that order. It's not like you can use them elsewhere unless you were going to sell it or give it to someone else.

As to when it will happen -- the best date to guess is always 4th Tuesday in February. 6 of the 11 happened then, twice on/near Tuesday Valentine's Day (2012 and 2018), one time 1st Tues March, twice 2nd Tuesday in March including last year

Sometimes you can guess with high profile releases, but that seems a little harder this year. If I had to bet based on this list, I say 50% it will be 2/28, and 25% March 7, with a 25% chance Valentine's Day with Romeo and Juliet just b/c it seems a perfect release day for the item.

Japan now has Stray Dog, Ikiru, Yojimbo, and Sanjuro in 4K SDR on discs, more to come it appears.

So I hope Criterion releases them on 4K UHD discs in a beautiful box set!

Depends on if Toho allows them to do so with reverse importation and such.

My understanding is that Criterion has the US rights in perpetuity (if someone with better knowledge of the situation would like to correct me please do). As for the releases they make last I heard they could only release the new format/scans once they were released in Japan first (the US blu rays came out sometimes only a few weeks/months after the Japanese ones).

So in principle all obstacles should be cleared once all the Japanese 4K remasters are out, and Criterion should be able to do an epic 4k box (with blu rays for the non 4k scans). It's been long overdue.

I have been putting this off, but a few days ago I was watching my blu of the Phantom Carriage and it kept freezing up when the movie got to chapter 10. I have owned the blu for a few years and just recently rewatched. Has anyone had any issue with the disc?

I think there is a way to get a replacement copy from Criterion by contacting “Jon Mulvaney”, but not sure how to contact them. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, I've mentioned in a couple threads that I think if we get a Boogie Nights 4K that it's likely gonna be from Criterion. It just feels right. Even deeper down than that I'm hoping this leads to a PTA 4K box set lol

I'm hoping for a domestic release of Hard Eight, but maybe that could be included in an "early works" set along with Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love and Magnolia (he expressed editing a new cut, saying the original was "20 minutes too long.").

I don't understand the point of this. Isn't it a bit like re-encoding a 126kbps mp3 in FLAC? Encoding it in a new format isn't going to improve it any or add any resolution.

Unless the thinking is that doing a 70mm transfer will:

1. Bring out some detail from the negative that a normal 35mm transfer might lose (which would be minute, but probably technically there).

2. Allow it to be projected on larger screens on film without having to use a digital projector and upscaling to 8k or something.

I hope it never comes out on 4k so I don’t have the burden of having to rebuy it and feel pointless in buying the Bluray I haven’t watched 2 years ago.

Watched that TV program live - "in living colour". It was astonishing! Saw "Hard Day's Night" in a theatre when it 1st came out as well. We sat though it twice

. I played guitar in a teen dance band at the time & we did many of their 1st songs. I really believe you had to be there to understand the impact of the Beatles at the beginning. Never forgot the 1st radio coverage of the Beatles songs. Tight harmonies!!!
