Last night I watched the copy of the Dazed & Confused UHD I got in the flash sale.
it had a 2mm long scratch that looked to be deep (deeper than just light scuff marks scratches, anyway). Fortunately it played fine. I saw this at the theater in '93 and didn't warm up to it. Finally seeing it again after thirty years, it played as a profoundly different experience. What I thought back then was an awkward ping-ponging between cartoon-ish stoner comedy and lame dramatics- with some detours for bizarre, mean spirited activity to juice it up- I now see had a lot more honesty and nuance than I gave it credit for. Along with an actual point that I wasn't open to seeing years ago I was honestly surprised at my reaction. This isn't the first time my feelings about a movie radically changed for the better with a follow up viewing years later. Oddly enough, the three times that stick out most prominently were all titles that Criterion put out (Don't Look Now, Picnic At Hanging Rock, and this). I have another ten titles to get through from that sale, but the extent to which I enjoyed this last night, went a long way to pretty much justifying the whole order. Curious if this could open the door to a box set of those three films plus whatever other docs and dissertations he has. |

Contact Criterion, I've had replacement discs shipped from New York to my UK address directly. So hopefully they can sort something.

Hi everyone! I order like 5 Criterion at the Flash Sale, Okja (UHD/BD), Sound of Metal (UHD/BD), Menace 2 Society (UHD/BD), Power of the Dog (UHD/BD) and The Worst Person in the World (BD).
I had to return everything because of all the discs were scratched except Sound of Metal UHD/BD and Power of the Dog BD disc. Even the one that are 99% mint have mini scratches on it, but it's tolerable. At least Criterion have a good customer service. They answer rapidly and will send replacement discs. I hope that Criterion will change his pressing plant in the future because it's becoming disastrous. I collect Blu-rays since 2007 and 2023 becoming the worst year for collector. I received a lot of discs that have imperfections and severe ones, not only Criterion. I hope that company that release disc will press their disc in Germany plant or other place in a near future because it's becoming very disappointing for collector. But I still buying them because the quality of video/sound is not comparable to platform streaming despite the many inconveniences. |

Nope, I bought them new and I pay for a premium product. Why have products that worst than used one? I buy a lot of use bluray/4k movies in audio/book stores that are in better condition than that. They must be notified if there are quality control flaws.

I'm curious how many of these Criterion has the rights to? Typhoon Club for sure, but not sure of any of the rest. Last edited by DukeTogo84; 04-11-2023 at 06:32 PM. |
