Agreed. And I don't mean to be that guy who proclaims every film should be on the label.
But NBC is a Palme d'Or winner. You would at least think that one of his films would more likely show up at some point.
I'm just wanting more of his work to reach North America side. if it's other labels, wicked. I just feel like Criterion has the best chance for getting his work.

Some years ago I saw a screening of the short film Chinese Fire Drill (Will Hindle, 1968) at the Filmmaker's Co-op in New York. Unfortunately, the print had faded and almost everything was red (known issue with the type of film stock used).

If Immagine Ritrovata were asked to restore this experimental film, would they look to this faded red print and make the restoration look like that? I mean, if you want your 50 year old movies to look like they were screened from 50 year old prints I'm sure it's a fine approach.

I personally would prefer that it look like it did back in the day or as the film maker intended, not as an old (faded) print.

I think it's only his pre-Anatolia films that are not out in the US. In the UK they are available as part of a (region B) boxset from New Wave films. I suppose someone could do a NBC: Early Years set in the US. It depends on who has a relationship with the rightsholders.

Distant was released from Big World Pictures (Partner label for Vinegar Shndrome). So there’s a chance they have them all or just that one.

As Gacivory stated already, Small Town, Clouds of May, Climates and Three Monkeys don't have state side releases. So there's possibility that someone could release one or more of his stuff.

I did see that box set. Eastern hemisphere companies know how to do it right when releasing director's works.

All of those pre-films are actually all-region in that set, for what it’s worth. I scanned the covers for the site database and you can check which are and which aren’t.

No, they certainly would not. Applying a print film emulation LUT has nothing to do with applying any kind of aging filter. The LUT emulates the color characteristics and spectral profile of an actual (freshly struck) release print. See, e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=417.

It would be nice to see Criterion throw in some more popular titles in their releases. Yeah it's nice seeing some unreleased/unknown films in there, but I love when they remaster something that had a terrible or non-existent Blu-ray release such as Thief. Wonder if we can get The Keep too.

Look at some film print emulation LUTs (e.g., via simple Google search). If they look warm - or as some people would say, teal and yellow - to you, that's not because it's a supposedly modern approach. That's a common misunderstanding. It's because they emulate the look of printed film stock of the times, often Kodak 2383.

Weird how I can watch an IB tech print that doesn't fade, yet its not yellow like the claim its supposed to be. So nice info, but you're also as wrong as they are. It's ok to be wrong, but according to you, every film was always yellow and never had 1 ounce of white in it, which is complete and ridiculous fallacy.

Not to mention, different film stocks varied, so basing color on a sole film print is never accurate, since different prints could give different looks.

Also, film prints are 4 gen form the negative, so it's not "supposed" to look that sharp, either.
