For CG...

Do you remember Criterion's 'Jeanne Dielman Cooking Contest' back in 2009?

This is still my favorite video from the responses they received.

Finally received one of my B&N packages this week.

Decided to start tonight with The Darjeeling Limited.

Big Wes Anderson fan, but this is the first time I've seen it since its original release. Not my favourite, but still a wonderful film. Very pleased with the PQ/AQ - the river crossing sequence in particular. Just terrific.

I personally don't think a film like Inception will be remembered in 50 years. I'm not a Nolan fan, although I did like Batman Begins and The Prestige, and don't think he makes as smart of films as everyone thinks he does. He didn't really do anything "new" in inception - he just culled together a bunch of stuff that's already been seen before... which is probably why I dislike Tarantino as well. I may be wrong... if I'm alive 50 years from now I guess I'll see, lol.

Tarantino is worse IMO. He covers his tracks with "homages" and "fan of films".Get real. Every director is a fan of films or they wouldn't be f'n doing it. He steals crap and pushes it in mass market films and gets credit for it. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy his films, because I do. You know why I do? Because they are scenes from films I like. I just don't like the credit of being "The/One of the Best directors working today". "A man who changed films in the 90's!". Blah blah blah.

Jackie Brown was his best film btw. I guess because he needed to adapt a novel and not frankenstein movies together.

Inception is an example of what is wrong (or should I say, what will do them in) with most films today. Technology based films. Who says 50 years from now they will look back on the effects or the film logic itself and laugh because they have improved greater? Yes, it's a big thing now, but 50's sci-fi films were big in it's day too. We improved from strings and models.

While I think Inception was a well made film, it bored me. I never felt any sense of danger or suspense. Keep in mind I saw this film the day it was released in theaters with only seeing the original teaser poster. I was waiting for a film to come along that U thought would surprise me. In fact I didn't know any of the case except for Leonardo.

Antonio Gaudi and Jeanne Diehlman are much more satisfying than Inception was for me.

And for what it's worth since I am running my mouth about it, I went and saw Inception twice (Opening weekend and 2 weeks after.).

I go see Nolan and Tarantino films. Yes, you can say I am helping the cause, but just know, I'm not a "I'm not going to see that film. I'll just talk crap about it!". With the films I have "talked bad about yesterday", I went and saw Inception twice, Inglourious Basterds twice (and seen it on blu as I own it), went and saw Dark Knight twice (midnight showing and a month after. Own it.), There Will Be Blood twice (Opening day, place was empty, and 2 weeks later, a couple of older guys. Also own dvd and blu). Matrix, never (only rented it. Yuck!).

Jackie Brown is his best, because it seems to be the film that displays his talents without getting obnoxious. Inglourious Basterds and Pulp Fiction are really watchable and entertaining films for me as well. The rest? Lame.

I don't think Inception is much more of a culprit than something like Avatar, where the visual effects literally are the whole movie. Will 3d and CG look a lot better in 50 years? Hell yes. Will there be many breakthroughs in terms of building a rotating hallway set for your film? Probably not. Inception has plenty of CG effects, but they're not as in your face as other films, which makes it slightly more future proof.

Yes, Avatar is a greater example. I try not to talk bad about it, because I refuse to see it. So that way, when I give opinions about a movie, I KNOW I have seen it.

Because it has a girl with a nice 'belly bump' dancing in her underwear... then, a girl in the kitchen wearing an apron for a top.

I figured you'd either love Tarantino or hate him, since Godard is who he primarily steals from.

And a "technology based film" like, say, Star Wars, HAS held up because of the story and, most importantly, the characters, not because of the SFX. And, sorry to all the fanboys, but Inception has TERRIBLE characters (especially since Leo is the only one who was written with any bit of depth, and even then it's sort of embarrassing that he had a character almost identical to the one he had in Shutter Island, which was written years before) and a so-so story that might have felt original 25 years ago. I'm so Star Wars apologist, either, but I'll give it the win in this instance.

Default Revanche

In finally got around to watching Revanche, which I blind bought during BF week.

I loved it!!!! Everything, the film, the PQ, the AQ, and the extras were fantastic!

This is a BD done right!

I am Austrian, and this is my first Austrian film in my BD collection.

I have recently bought a bunch of Criterions, but only the ones that I am really interested in. I don't collect for the sake of collecting.

Here are my Criterion BDs, if anyone cares to know:

1. Seven Samurai
2. Yojimbo
3. Sanjuro (Boxset)
4. Monsoon Wedding
5. Kagemusha
6. Modern Times
7. A Thin Red Line
8. Revanche
9. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
10. Charade

I'm glad you liked it. Revanche is absolutely phenomenal. One of my favorite Criterion releases, and one of my favorite Blu-ray releases. I love everything about it. The cinematography is superb, and the colors and images are just beautiful to look at. It definitely deserves more credit. Nice set of Criterions, too.

One Criterion for you, which is a must-own, in my opinion, is The 400 Blows. Please pick that one up.

He dedicated Reservoir Dogs to Godard, much to Godard's chagrin, as far as I know. I'm with Godard, that movie sucks.

Star Wars is a silly example. You can't compare "depth" in one film vs six (or three decent ones), that is just retarded. What is cool or original or daring about the plot of A New Hope? Nothing. Its a technology film, through and through. Its just a good time. So is Inception. I think they will both be looked upon similarly, or at the least, Inception will end up as a favorite among sci-fi fans a la The Matrix.

Comparing A New Hope to Avatar would work better.

"Watching "Avatar," I felt sort of the same as when I saw "Star Wars" in 1977."

Here is much as I know about QT's Godard "influence":

QT's production company is a Band Apart - A play on Godard's Band of Outsiders (Bande à part). Godard said he should get some money for it. lol.

Pulp Fiction's Mia Wallace - Anna Karina in Vivre sa vie.

Pulp Fiction's Jack Rabbit Slim "silence" speech and dance segment - Band of Outsiders' "minute of silence" and dance segment.

That's off the top of my head with the Godard stuff. But he has put French New Wave influences in films like Jackie Brown and more so in Inglourious Basterds. Res Dogs is a totally different story.

Okay, Quentin is a pompous douche, yes, but the brilliance of Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds is something that can't be overlooked.

I'm thinking about buying Antichrist, Modern Times, and Night of the Hunter. What do you think, people who own them?
