If you are a region free, I highly recommend the German Blu of THE JUNGLE BOOK which has eye lightning Technicolor and is a great transfer, the best out there to date.

The last two March flash sales (on Criterion.com) were on the 21st (2023) and 8th (2022). Both on Tuesday, as someone already mentioned.

Make sure to get the one with the cover I pictured as it’s been rereleased in Germany with a different cover and I can’t vouch for that one being the same transfer as the older one. Also there is a cool extra on the latter, but with a caveat: A full length Russian animated version THE JUNGLE BOOK from the 70’s is on there, which my German wife says was very popular on German television when she was a kid. Unfortunately, on the Blu it has no English options! The animation is pretty striking to watch anyway.

It'd be cool if we got The Rover or Animal Kingdom

Would be super happy if Joel Edgerton is in the offices to talk about a release for The Underground Railroad!

Well, another purchase of two different titles and both full of scratched up discs - to go with my first copies with scratched up discs. This is terrible QC. How is everyone else's luck with Shaft? Noticed both copies came in rewrapped form with the silver sticker. Is Criterion just rewrapping returns at this point?

I’ve never had a problem with a criterion disc outside of the known problematic batch but I’ll also never looked a bottom of a disc.

Yeah I think I have a few scratched discs in my collection. The one I can think of is Branded to Kill 4K, which I believe happened because the discs were intentionally stacked on top of each other because of the case design but fortunately no playback issues or any problem. Guess I have been lucky 'cause I know the scratched disc issue has been a huge issue with Criterion for the last few years (And of course the controversies regarding the restorations that they utilize and the encoding being questionable on some recent ones for the more critical customers).

Is this a problem with Shaft, or with all films?

And does this affect the 4K disc performance, the Blu-ray performance, or both?

Three criterions I bought january-may 2022 have begun displaying disc rot, they're all bronzing along one side.

Double Indemnity 4k, the 4k disc and both blu-rays.
The Red Shoes 4k, the included blu-ray, although I think the 4k might just be starting to bronze as well.
Tampopo the uk Region B blu-ray

Just a heads-up

That sounds like an environmental/storage issue to me - the UK ones are not manufactured in the same place as the US ones. Have they been exposed to moisture or light?

Bronzing was more a DVD thing - can you post a photo please, I'm curious!

No, I have hundreds of discs stored at the same place. Many other criterions. I've looked through them all and only those three criterions bought in the same time frame jan-may 2022 have gone bad.

Temperature did drop to 15c(59f) once though from room temperature, but that's not big enough a temperature fluctuation to damage the coating, considering discs get shipped in colder temperatures all the time.

Strange. That region B disc really makes no sense to have also gone bad, maybe they made a batch at the Mexico plant... Or the other way around. Maybe they used the same supplier for the coating... Either way, I've contacted criterion, maybe they know something.

Just checked mine and it looks great. No discoloration or clouding of any kind.

Bought my Red Shoes UHD in March 2022 - no signs of discolouration on either disk.
