It can be bought individually on eBay, if you're willing to pay that much, but might not be worth it since the Criterion blu-ray already looks great, and I'm not sure just how much the Sony 4K is supposed to improve upon it.
Yea I was reading about Arrow's superior release for Videodrome. My only hesitation is that the Arrow disc doesn't include the Cronenberg commentary track, and I'm a sucker for commentary tracks.

Still, can't agree about that grotesque cover; I'm hoping Criterion listens to the feedback a la Some Like it Hot and commissions a new one.

With these Hurt releases to accompany The Big Chill and Broadcast News, he's well-represented in the collection. Never my favorite actor, but a guy I've always felt helped define 80s American cinema. Wonder if we'll see Kiss of the Spider Woman and/or Children of a Lesser God from them at some point.

Criterion just announced PEDICAB DRIVER (one of Sammo Hung's two masterpieces, the other of course being EASTERN CONDORS) will be on the Channel in August. We are so close to this hopefully being rescued from WB DVD-R hell.

I wonder if I can position a thing I hate as being offensive towards certain minority groups just to get it changed? Basically to get the savages to pick up their spears, and scare the NBA into bringing back the Bullets.

Have you seen MANHUNTER? It's fantastic.

I was 12 years old when I saw ALTERED STATES on opening day. I loved it! It blew my mind. Afterward, I rented Paddy Cheyefsky's novel and thought that was terrific too. I've owned it on VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray, but never felt it was given the release it deserved. So I'm thrilled about Criterion putting it out. Cool artwork too.

I'm reposting what I posted in the "Database Artwork" thread.

As far as the back images are concerned, scans are encouraged, but high quality cell phone photos (assuming the image is straight/centered, no reflections) will suffice. If I had a BN near me I would take the photos myself. Unfortunately the closest one is almost 45 minutes away and they only sell books.

Please PM me if you can help with any of these. I'm not always checking the pending submissions, so I don't want to miss anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I need a distraction from the real world for a bit, so working on the database has been a win-win for me and this website (or so I like to think).

As far as this thread is concerned, I am keeping the layout as-is with the yearly breakdowns. It is admittedly pretty clean looking. I've removed any lingering release dates for films included in bundles (I'm still on the fence about whether to list these or not, but if they can't be purchased on their own, why should they have a date? What do you guys think? I think most contributors/staff are in agreement.).

I can justify 1,165 of the 1,914 titles in the database currently (the ones listed on the main page of this thread). I didn't factor in the films included in bundles as those don't have release dates or UPCs. If memory serves, there's technically 1,160 as one pertains to the second pressing of DRESSED TO KILL, two pertain to CITIZEN KANE disc errors, and two pertain to A HARD DAY'S NIGHT disc errors. But yeah, quite a lot nonetheless!

As I continue to compile a list of artwork the Criterion portion of this database could benefit from, I kindly implore all of you to check your collections against the information listed for each entry in the database, if you feel inclined to do so. We never used to have a "leaflet/foldout" option in the database, for example, so quite a lot of entries do not have them listed. Booklets have staples/glue/string bindings, leaflets fold out like accordions. Neither one counts as memorabilia. Furthermore, it seems like everyone has a different opinion on what constitutes "inner print." As far as I'm concerned, if there's an image, a design pattern, or writing, it counts.

As I posted yesterday, over the past few years I had mentally checked out and did not ensure that entries were updated on a regular basis. I wasn't even aware that some 4K releases come in DigiPacks while their BD counterparts came in Scanavo cases. If you have any pending submissions or anything related to these titles, feel free to PM me and I'll make sure it's taken care of.

After the artwork is handled, I think I'll make sure that feature-length films included in the extras are reflected in each bundle.

Anyway, if you have any other suggestions for these titles, this thread, or the database in general, please feel free to post them here or PM me and I'll try my best to accommodate to you!

Criterion will be doing a replacement prgram for The Wiz due to audio errors:

Quote:
Hi,

Thanks for your patience as we looked into this.

I can confirm that our initial release of THE WIZ 4K UHD and Blu-ray have feature audio errors that are being corrected now.

If you have already purchased a copy of the film, please hold on to it and watch for follow up instructions regarding the process for receiving replacement corrected disc(s).

If you have not purchased your copy or have returned the one you bought, rest assured that the second pressing will be clearly marked and available for sale in the coming months.

We'll be in touch again as soon as we have more news to share regarding the updated release and replacement process.

Best,
Kseniya

I had no idea MANHUNTER was out of print, as it's a title that I've instantly re-bought with each subsequent release. It's the first film adaptation of Thomas Harris' novel, Red Dragon. This book preceded Silence of the Lambs and introduced the world to FBI profiler Will Graham and Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter. If you can find it, I highly recommend it.

Regarding the switch from Janus Contemporaries to Criterion Premieres.

Quote:
Hi Scott,

Thank you for reaching out. The UPC numbers will remain the same. Films that were previously announced as Janus Contemporaries will have that branding on the cover art for the time being but it's being updated to Criterion Premieres and future copies will have new lithos with that update. Stock will be mixed for those previous films.

New titles like MISERICORDIA and THE SHROUDS will have the new Criterion Premieres branding from the onset.

I hope this helps but let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Jon Mulvaney

Eek. I guess don't open them yet if you want them to reflect the CP line.

I wonder if Criterion will sell replacement artwork on their website. Is it still possible to PayPal Criterion $5 to get replacements of whatever they want?

Criterion swapping from Janus Contemporaries to the new labeling is actually kind of funny in how it’s def. going to annoy a bunch of people.

Still waiting for the day they finally change the layout of the mainline after all these years.
