Nothing for me, but I'm ok with that, as December is usually a busy month to begin with in terms of my day to day life.

That’s true. Last year, it was just two new films and two 4k upgrades (though the new ones were wowsers with No Country and Eastern Condors). Once again, I wonder if we’re seeing the effects of the new capital.

I would buy it.

But I would prefer they did “Sleepy Hallow” or “Mars Attacks”

Would be great if I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING is the first of many 4Ks from the Powell/Pressburger/The Archers' filmography. Among my favorite filmmakers and some of the most creative and imaginative filmmakers ever. They seemed to always be trying something new and different.

I guess it's up to the BFI or whoever else holds the film elements and film rights. It seems the Archer's release ownership is shared among several current owners.

Criterion released The Red Shoes as one of their first 4Ks.

Day 1 for I Know Where I'm Going 4K, but that's about it for me this month. His Girl Friday is great put Sony already but it out on 4K previously.

Ah well, guess this source didn't pan out this month.

I'd take both, but Mars Attacks would be such a great entry in the collection!

Of course! I should have remembered that. Although for some strange reason it's not one of my favorite Powell/Pressburger films.

Pretty much all the Samuel Goldwyn films--he had a terrific batting average over 36 years of independent productions, 1923-1959--remain owned by and controlled by the Goldwyn estate. So it's up to the estate to pay for, or arrange grant funding, for any restorations and re-releases.

There is no publicly known reason why the successor Goldwyns are so reluctant to allow that work. There's dozens of films in that library, many are very good. Six of them are in the National Film Registry, little films like THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES, THE PRIDE OF THE YANKEES, WUTHERING HEIGHTS, DODSWORTH, and BALL OF FIRE. But for many years they've been languishing in SD transfers. Not sure how many have even received HD upgrades, but certainly no 4Ks. It's a damn shame, but it's not Criterion's fault.

The film elements for Goldwyn have been on deposit at The Academy Film Archive since 1979, so hopefully they're in good shape. But the Goldwyn owners need to agree to access and restorations, and so far they haven't been convinced.
The Best Years Of Our Lives got a new 4K restoration in 2021, so that's one good thing at least, though there's no home video release of the new 4K restoration so far.

If Criterion can do Pee-wee's Big Adventure, they can do Freddy Got Fingered. Make it happen!

Pee-wee's Big Adventure and the TMNT trilogy are my two most-wanted 4K upgrades and they're both coming this December. What a time to be alive.

Really need to update my signature now.

Interestingly enough, this is the first year since 2015 that Criterion has not released a B&W movie that is licensed from WB.

This is actually ported over from a Warner Blu-ray. I have it in the Tim Burton Collection.

That Big Adventure release is really lovely looking. I may even bite the UK's 'forced combo pack' bullet for the new remaster and extras. Actually quite surprised though it doesn't feature a second disc with 'Pee Wee As Himself', I'd have assumed that was bolted on (it's even the same rights owner as the movie) as it is a very Criterion kind of extended supplement.
