Perhaps the "short" month makes releasing on the mid-point of the month more logical (for whatever reason) and also the Valentine's Day thing..... I was thinking about all of this when I work up this morning actually.... My wife said "Happy Valentine's Day" and I immediately thought "Hmmm wonder if Criterion will announce titles early this month" This actually happened..... crazy.

Makes sense with the Valentine's Day theme...if they went with Picnic at Hanging Rock as well...
I think it's a great film.... (I really like the idea behind why the people are at this place they are at etc.... but I won't give anything away )

but honestly, I watch it for the story... this is one of those films that might be more enjoyable on a VHS cassette that was left in the back-window of a car on a sunny day in the middle of the summer..... More resolution doesn't really 'help' this one

If people are interested in possible announcement spoilers, Criterion Cast has been tweeting some trailers. I won't post them here since I know many of us like the surprise.

Well if the Cast's predictions are as correct as they've been in the past, it'll be a light month for me.

I would, but if someone else does it while I am getting it ready, I'll be called lazy for not reading theirs first and therefore duplicating a post.

Some people just ruin it for others...

Good job Italy, I was just about to post them myself, the only reason I didn't was that I decided to preview post where I saw you beat me to it/

For me, my two quick (buy at $25, not the B&N Sale) pick ups from these predictions would be would be
[Show spoiler]The Chaplin and the Demme flicks
, and I'd pick up
[Show spoiler]the Bergman
during the sale.

But in all honesty, I'd do evil things for them to finally announce the
[Show spoiler]Tati films that are left in the collection (Les vacances de Monsieur Hulot, Mon Oncle)
, and I'd kill for them to finally release
[Show spoiler]Jour de fête (There still isn't a Region 1 release)
. Though I'd be pretty happy if we finally got
[Show spoiler] Brazil and the rest of the Wes Andersons movies (priority being [from greatest to least needed]: The Royal Tenenbaums, RushmoreThe Life Aquatic)
.

As probably most of you noticed, Taxi Driver just got its official BD announcement, but I want to point out to everyone that one of the commentaries that is included on the set is the infamous Scorsese/Schrader commentary from the 1986 Criterion LD is being ported over, for the first time it has been used since that initial release.

While I never actually the opportunity to listen to it, many say it is perhaps the best commentary ever recorded. I can tell you all that I'm pretty excited for this release, though I have a love/hate relationship with the film (I've always felt that Raging Bull is Marty's best directorial work).

They're going up now...

Smiles Of A Summer Night... May 3rd
Fat Girl... May 3rd
The Great Dictator... May 24th

I imagine CriterionCast has gotten them all correct.

CC

If this pans out, then I guess that Wild Strawberries was a bad guess and/or will be featured at a later date.

Hey CC...more Bergman on blu = good! Sorry that there's no Eclipse set of his "hard to find" films.

NO surprise on Chaplin...about time they released another title.

So presuming Solaris still has to go up too, that's 7 titles for May

"High-definition digital restoration (with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray edition)"

From Solaris' page, so it is coming...soon...I guess?
