I love PATHS OF GLORY but I own the DVD so I'm somehow less in a rush to shell out 30$ for it but I'll probably do it anyway. The Criterion Blu looks glorious.
Criterion corrected the OAR ratio for Paths of Glory. The DVD had it at 1.33.1...This is along with the PQ/AQ upgrade is big time, imo.

I'm not a huge Charade fan but it's quite a bit better than 'bad Hitchcock'.

For those ordering the replacement cases through Criterion's store front...

A word to the wise... I just received two replacement cases that I'm going to be mailing out to a user in another forum that lives abroad, and the cases now have a barcode sticker on the outside of the case, which covers up the barcode on the cover insert. I'm not sure how difficult these stickers may, or may not, be able to remove so you might wanna keep some Goo-Gone on-hand just in-case.

I just received my replacement case for "The Last Emperor" today and the sticker very easily peeled right off. I'd prefer it have been shrink wrapped as there was some slight wear on the case, but nothing to complain about.

I agree Charade is great fun and and not 'bad' anything. Charming performances all around, and I especially like the French police inspector:

Oh, and the transfer on the Criterion Blu-ray is brilliant. I think it's the only case of an upgrade that uses a newer transfer than the DVD.

Got the transparent thing down and even used it on the font since it was too white (and if the pic looks too low-def, it's on purpose, if you seen the film. I kept copying it until it looks blurry.) I got to put the Criterion font on the side, and place the C in the correct spot. I still love the 2 scenes I used. It makes a little Godard statement on it's own.:

Good job there... your wacky C is a bit bigger than standard, but I like your overall concept (not that I've seen the film).

Is that you with the gas mask, or is it from some obscure film?

Yeah, I need to resize the C. It's just concept for now.

So I'm almost done with Revanche, and I really don't see what makes this film amazing, there's actually a lot wrong with it, also the lack of a decent soundtrack gives the film a tendency to drag or feel hollow.

I haven't seen Revanche, but everyone I talk to always cites Antares as infinitely better. I have seen Antares and I think it's really good.

I really liked it, prob. the best austrian movie i´ve seen in a long time. But i really can see why peoply who are not familiar with the language dont enjoy this.

There so many slang words and the dialect spoken in vienna can be hard to translate for enjoyable subtitles.

I liked it. A lot, actually.

The players were all interesting and flawed without being caricatures (though 'hooker with a heart of gold' did edge a little close) and the story was off enough to keep me wondering where it was going.

And it looked great - not that sweeping, lingering, self-conscious, big-budget, where should we put the orchestra great - just clean, appealing visuals.

I'll definitely be returning to it at some point.

I have a template for Criterion covers you can use, if you want.

I disagree, I think the sombre ambience of the film reflected the character's feelings, which in my opinion gave it substance and never really felt drawn out.

I don't agree with you. I really liked this film a lot. I thought that the shots were perfect, and the pacing fantastic. It has an excellent sense of tension. The lack of a score only enhanced the mood: the sound effects, the natural everyday sound effects, were amazing. Very good film, in my opinion.

Hey guys...new to the forum.

Just wondering if there has been any more word on David Fincher's "The Game" getting the blu-ray Criterion treatment? This is one movie i'd love to upgrade.

Not really. It's pretty clear that it will be released by Criterion at some point, but it could still be awhile.
