That's pretty funny...I've seen 'ass' used in so many different forms here it never occurred to me that lame fcc distinction might be in place.

Wow.
I'm not even that crazy about TSS but something like that alone gets me itchy to buy it.

We make a lot of jokes about people caring more about the packaging or the booklets or what have you but their enthusiasm for what they do definitely can be infectious.

Regular folks shouldn't talk about movies

Regular Blu-Ray collectors shouldn't talk about Criterion Blu-Rays

Have I understood that correct?

I really wish they still had the rights to Dead Ringers. The Tenant would be nice too, I think the Paramount dvd is OOP.

Both of those are way up there on my Criterion wishlist. Naked Lunch, too!

I was wondering about a November sale myself, because I've just order 6 blu-rays, but also had my eye on a number of the Eclipse box-sets.
Since everyone's listing, here's the 6 blu's I ordered:
Zazie Dans Le Metro
Beauty and the Beast
High and Low
Last Year At Marienbad
Cronos
The Music Room

I've recently watched two films in my Nikkatsu Noir box-set and can highly recommend it. The DVDs upscale very nicely.
I have my eye on The Warped World of Koreyoshi Kurahara, Oshima’s Outlaw Sixties, Travels with Hiroshi Shimizu, and Kenji Mizoguchi’s Fallen Women. (The Koreyoshi Kurahara set doesn't qualify for the current 50% sale, but it would in November.)
I'm always interested in Ozu, but I'm reluctant to get the Late Ozu set, because a number of his films have blu-ray editions in the UK and Criterion could possibly upgrade some more of his titles before these other filmmakers.
Does anyone have these sets or familiarity with the films and directors?

You missed Down by Law which was also in the poll.

As for Kwaidan, it's licensed from Toho who has "six-months policy" meaning that other distributors can not release a film until six months after Toho themselves has released it. And Toho has not released it on Blu-ray.

I see the welcome wagon is fixed CC. Good to hear...

BTW Joe, I got my B&N order today. Naked and Insignificance. Ordered them yesterday morning and got free shipping. It's so nice when you are not a member, don't shell out any extra money to them, and get your order in 1 day...

I'm sure that this has been tackled in this forum at some point, but with Netflix imposing a new price hike on their subscription plans:

How is Blockbuster's Criterion Blu (and non-Blu) inventory? I know that Netflix leaves little to be desired, as far as I know. Granted, Hulu seems to be the place to go, but I'm a lover of the disc format due to the better quality of the picture and sound (streaming be damned!). So that leaves Netflix and Blockbuster for rental choices (besides the local mom&pop stores). Thanks in advance!

Do I understand that the bold word refers to a film watcher or trophy display?? The real question is; do you watch the films, or collect them?

Henderson, I have both and can say that I was going to drop Blockbuster. In the last month, I believe since Dish completed their deal with the purchase, Blockbuster now has all the CC blus available for rental. Previously for about a month or so, all newer titles were unavailable. It has changed now. The newer films I like to rent, if I have never viewed them before a purchase. Their dvd stock is just as good as Netflix. Now Netflix has basically nothing available to rent from Criterion, but I will keep the streaming, as I enjoy many of the older catalog titles and they are still available to stream. The other day, I revisited "The Rules of the Game" and the stream was fine. Until Netflix loses the catalog, they will get my streaming money only. I just read that Yahoo is going to buy Hulu, so who knows what will happen as for accessibility of the catalog.

Damn, I forgot to order House (for Emotion, the short that's included which I like better) in my order for the Music Room.

Thanks! Much appreciated!...I just may go to Blockbuster at this point. We'll see...
