People have been remaking movies since the first successful movie was released.

CG's reasoning for saying they would likely be the last to be upgraded is due to them being so recently released. As much griping as there is about upgrades over new releases, imagine a release that's barely been out a year taking up an upgrade spot. Personally, I wouldn't mind. Much like CG, I'd love to have "Dillinger Is Dead" on blu, but people would certainly be upset over it. A few years inbetween will soften that upgrade blow.

And, as is often said around here, the Eclipse series are most likely never going to be released on Blu. I know it might be tough to buy a DVD nowadays, but the way these sets are is completely worth it. I have six of the sets and I've been impressed with them all.
Same here...I've got (3) of the Eclipse sets and hope to buy the Nikkatsu Noir set during the next sale. I've also got the (2) UK Naruse sets, which I really enjoy. Sad that THOSE films will likely never see the blu treatment.

I see that Secret Sunshine is selling for $19.49 on Amazon right now.

Those that have seen my list of BDs...do you think this would appeal to me? It was a maybe for November, but I might consider it now as an early birthday present.

BTW...I made it my goal to rent and watch all three of the Colours Trilogy and accomplished that last week. Very impressed by all films and especially loved Red and Blue. I also finished The Decalogue last night and hope that ANYONE releases it on blu.

Anyone know if Facets Video has released any films on blu-ray?

Last night I watched Secret Sunshine, whilst enjoyed it for the most part (mainly the first half an hour) I just couldn't connect with the whole of the film. It is wonderfully shot and great acting, but I just felt it is a bit preachy. I will likely watch it again at some point. The transfer is spot on, being a relatively recent film, you would expect it to be. Just my opinion

Thanks Baz! Money is tight right now and I've got The Vigo set and Strike coming next week as it is.

Any other feedback?

I am extremely impressed by it and will go out of the way right now and just call it a masterpiece . Clouzot got EVERYTHING right on this one, more than I could have hoped even with my sky-high expectations. Now after seeing the film I could understand why some people said Hitchcock had a formidable "adversary" on Clouzot . Diabolique really gives Hitchcock a run for his money and then some. The level of suspense found here is off the charts. I appreciate how Clouzot give time to build-up tension and also kinda confuses the viewer with that slow-burning start. Vera Clouzot was amazing but, in my opinion, Simone Signorete completely stole the film. Characters such as this one shows the quality of an actress that was Signorete and why is one of my favorite French actresses "pre-Nouvelle Vague" (And I say pre because she also had major contributions before the whole movement begun). Overall, I felt Diabolique is one of those masterpieces that aren't as well known because of more recent similar examples like in this case Psycho's popularity. This is truly sad as Diabolique has to be one of the best french films I have seen in terms of sheer suspense. It seems like Solaris comes next (And you can bet I would go with something like Playtime or Vivre sa Vie instead ).
Have you seen Army of Shadows? Simone Signorete is great in that as well.

Clouzot is one of my favorite directors. I keep hoping Criterion will get the rights back to The Raven ( Le Corbeau ) Another great film with a great history surrounding it with Clouzot being banned from filmmaking after the war because of it and the fact it was made under German studio continental films.

Also check out Clouzot's Wages of Fear on Criterion.

I watched Secret Sunshine as well. I enjoyed it, but thought it was going to be much more emotional than it was. I guess that is what caught me off guard. I was expecting to be drained by the end of the film, but I felt slightly disconnected from the emotion of the story. I need to watch it again in a month or so. Overall, I liked it, Jeon Do-yeon was spectacular (despite my ability to fully connect with the emotion), and I loved the relationship between Shin-ae and the church. I didn't think it was preachy...I think it portrayed a great clash of shattered life and messy theology. Right now, I want to give it a 4/5, but I am more accurately around 3.8/5. That may change after a second viewing.

Hollywood has been making remakes, reboots, and sequels since the silent era. This is nothing new.

Did you ever get your copy? Finally got mine yesterday via NV/CA/NV as well. B&N should work on packaging, one of the plastic disk holders was cracked, booklet roughed up a bit but thankfully(all that matters) the disk itself narrowly escaped damage. Really looking forward to the movie, will watch this weekend while trying to avoid the effects of a hurricane. Was able to read the booklet, fascinating....

I saw the preview for this on T.V. last night, and thought "Am I really seeing this?"

It looks very "tense" and could be a very gripping thriller, but from what I saw, the guy playing the "David Sumner" may as well have been this guy:

I paid 115 Canadian, plus 15% sales tax, and thought the whole set was worth it just for Head when I first bought it. The other films are pretty great too.

The Killing/Killer's Kiss has finally shown up at my parents' place this morning.
