There should be no need for that at all.
It's hard to tell looking at the screenshots for the two editions, because they haven't provided a side-by-side comparison as they do at blubeaver, but a click glance suggests the Criterion is missing image around all edges.
They did the same for the Kurosawa films that don't show as much information as their European counterpart editions.
Don't really know what's the issue here.

As for the PQ, the MoC version imo looks way better. The Criterion edition again has that harsh, digital 2k look (they surely used their old 2005 HD transfer here, as they always do with their re-issues), while the MoC transfer looks newer and much more natural.

Nice haul! I have been thinking about picking M but have never done it. I will probably pull the trigger in the next B&N sale. Easy Rider is also available in the CC. It comes with the BBS box-set, just in case you are interested in the rest body of work from the productions .

IOW, if you want to see hippie-era Jack Nicholson acting in "Rider" and "Five Easy Pieces", and screenwriting in "Head".

It's pretty cool when you start your day walking into a store and find Tokyo Drifter for under $10 never played. It's prob the only way I would of ever bought that bad looking Criterion dvd. I like bad looking dvds, don't get me wrong, but something like this needs a color-popping transfer.

Question

What's the chance of Criterion releasing a blu of Knife in the Water?

We now have Polanski's Cul-De-Sac and Repulsion on blu.

Plus, maybe Criterion can the rights to do a pressing of Rosemary's Baby in the future, as they do release the occasional Paramount film

Are any of you guys participating in Criterion's Facebook contest? I signed-up for an account just to submit an entry. Inspiration doesn't normally come to me that fast, but I knew exactly what to enter after reading the contest rules this morning.

Yah, I'd love the Tenant on Criterion Blu. I do own the Paramount DVD, but I'd love to have some extras and such, along with a good HD transfer.

Someone needs to tell the OP that the picture/review for The Killing needs to go up on the first page of this thread.

Got my first criterio Crumb; it was a blind buy, but I guess I shouldnt complain at $13 (Borders going out of business). Too bad Breathless was sold out thought.

Is there an email address I could use to request certain films for Criterion to consider?

I fell asleep during Leon Morin, Priest. I love Melville, and Belmondo, but this one wasn't doing it for me... at least last night it wasn't.

Well neither does Godard's... or Polanski's... or Hitchcock's... or... or... or...

But Roeg from 65-84 - Performance, Walkabout, Don't Look Now, Man Who Fell to Earth, Bad Timing... not to mention his cinematography (and influence) on one of the most underrated films of the 60s, Petulia, as well as Zhivago, Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Fahrenheit 451 - is undeniably an influential force in modern cinema. The cutting of some of his films, especially Petulia, Performance, Walkabout, and Don't Look Now - pre-dates the Pulp Fiction-style fractured narrative in ways that Tarantino could only dream of achieving.

Just received Seventh Seal and Le Cercle Rouge from amazon, both blind buys so what am I expecting from both films?

On the subject of Melville when is Le Samourai making its way onto blu-ray? Has there been any word?

September's such a great month for Criterion. Been anticipating Phantom Carriage and Carlos for awhile now.

I have what is probably a stupid question but will ask anyway. If I order The Last Year at Marienbad from Amazon now, will I get the plastic box or the digi-pack? I would like to skip the process of getting a replacement case .
