Honestly, this wait-and-see mystery approach that Criterion does with their monthly announcements gets a little annoying, particularly when there are other options, either in region A (with Brazil, for example) or in region B (Le Cercle Rouge and Harakiri).
I totally sympathise with those waiting on the Chaplin films or those waiting for films that have been teased about in newsletters.

Funny, that's exactly what makes it both unique and memorable, and a step above most "war" films that only focus on the carnage and bloodletting. It's called conflict. And not every recruit is the chiseled, statuesque guy on the posters... war is fought by REAL men (and women), and boot camp or not, those soldiers have real feelings and fears. Which is exactly why TRL DOES feel authentic - but to real life, not to movie life.

I pre ordered phantom carriage and I'm super excited to see that one. I'll probably wait for the november sale for Carlos but that looks good as well. Some really good releases for the rest of the year.

I would argue that Let the Right One In is important, but then again I wrote a chapter of my dissertation on it. My problem with adding it to the collection is that it already has a very nice release. Perhaps it could use some additional extras, but that's about it.

This is what happens when Criterion releases such awesome editions that even those films already (and perfectly good, I might add ) available in the format should receive the so called "Criterion Treatment" .

So Armageddon, The Rock, and Chasing Amy are more "important" films than Let the Right One In, is what you're saying. haha

Howard's End is a fantastic film. Merchant Ivory films are important to film history. In fact, TCM has been doing a month long celebration of their films every Thursday night. It's nice to see Helena Bonham Carter look human for a change, as opposed to the roles she's been doing lately (The King's Speech being an exception). It demonstrates that's more than the "freak," and can actually act.
