Yes, I was able to preorder Three Colors Trilogy, Godzilla and Belle de Jour at 50% off.

The last two weren't that obvious because the pictures next to them were missing/wrong. Also, their search function seemingly has a mind of its own.

Mulholland Drive wasn't released on HD DVD in the US. The version I have is the French version. And yeah, the SC Blu-ray is a lot better (though I wish it weren't region locked).

Reading the reviews of the US disc, there's a pitch problem with the audio due to it being mastered from a PAL source and being played back at 25 instead of 24 frames per second (I think, going from memory here). And the PQ, as enumerated before, is problematic.

Really can't recommend the SC blu (and going region-free) here more highly, if you can.

I have both the 2-disk DVD and the UK blu of Inland Empire, and the blu has better AQ. If it's marginal to you than okay, but I thought the blu was more dynamic. And the blu has its own set of extras, too - they're more of the interview variety but esp since Lynch doesn't do commentaries those are of interest. And both versions can be had for fairly cheaply (I spent ~$20 for both) to make your own deluxe version - which is what I recommend.
Yeah, there was never a US HD of Mulholland. I had the french also and it was not very good.

Either way, every review I've ever seen of any HD-DVD version of this film has not been complimentary. I know it's region-free like every HD-DVD is, that may be why I thought it was released here. I wasn't in the HD-DVD game back then.

I mean give me a break.
EDIT: wow, they have indeed changed all the Dec pre-orders back to $30 as well as Rushmore and 12 Angry Men which I also ordered for $19.99 each.
well they really screwed up.
amazing.
Do you have them marked "unable to process order" ?

Does anyone know if there is a 2 BD limit on discounts for preorders. I preordered The Rules of the Game and Fanny & Alexander (at 50% off) but it wouldn't give me a discount for 12 Angry Men and The Lady Vanishes?

12 Angry Men and The Lady Vanishes are both being released when the sale ends so they are not part of the 50% off sale.

The titles were, briefly, marked down to 50%, but they have since gone back to normal price.

all my orders look fine and the status simply says "not yet shipped"
I feel confident all the Dec pre-orders I got at $19.99 will be honored, and I will be very surprised if I get any emails informing me of any cancellations or pricing errors.

Lucky for you, 'cause 12 Angry Men and The Lady Vanishes are now marked "unable to process order" for me.

So folks, I ordered the following titles during the sale, and want to hear comments on them, as they are pretty much blind buys:

Amarcord
The Magician
The Four Feathers (only watched bits and pieces)
Dazed and Confused (ditto)

I also have Army of Shadows, which is another blind buy, awaiting shippment as I ordered it with my 12 Angry Men pre-order from Amazon.

Also, with this B&N sale, and counting my pre-orders, I'm slowly parring down my CC wishlist. There's a few I need to watch to see if they stay on the current first tier wishlist (the BD.com one), or if I can remove them to second tier, and add them back to the BD.com one once I've taken care of the first tier ones. I'm trying not to blind buy CC titles as much. I readily admit that this hasn't been a completely successful venture though.

I just spoke to someone at B&N and she told me the prices on these 2 films changed 2 hours before I placed my order this morning. She said prior to that time, both of these films were available at 50% off.

I must have missed that news about Being John Malkovich (https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Being...Blu-ray/30658/). This is good news - I thought for sure we were only going to get a recycled HD DVD transfer from Universal. I guess Universal may still release their own Blu.

Strange, I never saw that either, it states "no release date" so who knows...

I have the first three on your list. (not interested in D and C) The Magician is probably my favorite Bergman film. The BD looks incredible, and has a few good supplements if I remember correctly. (The Magician is the best film on your list IMHO) The Four Feathers is an epic scale adventure tale that was the crowning achievement of Z. Korda's production company. I am sure that the film would not be considered PC by today's standards A very enjoyable film with solid A/V presentation. Amarcord is a lot of fun. (it great to see the environment that Fellini grew up in on film) The BD is stacked in the supplement department.

On a side note, The Army of Shadows is excellent addition to your CC library. May be Melville's best film. (and the Criterion BD is loaded with supplements)

Hmm, I can only afford one this week.

I can't decide..any suggestions?

1) Che
2) Carlos
3) Night of The Hunter
4) Kiss me Deadly

I know they're different and I won't be disappointed with any of them, but I've hit a wall and can't make up my mind.

Sounds like they may honour the prices then.

I would vote for Kiss Me Deadly first followed by Night of the Hunter. Che is good but not great, haven't seen Carlos so I can't comment on it.

If I didn't already own them ry35an, my choices would be:

1) Night of the Hunter, simply because of that second disc containing 2 1/2 hours of Laughton outtakes, retakes, pre-takes, and post-takes. He left the camera running while he worked with his performers, which was often quite strained (see Shelley Winters' scenes in particular for a glimpse of the hell both were going through). This is a great film and a magnificent set. Also the one I suspect will go OOP first.

2) Kiss Me Deadly, just because it's a terrific noir, and the special features were so fascinating, especially the Mickey Spillane backstory.

3 / 4) Carlos / Che, neither of which I've opened or even seen. When I eventually do get around to them, I suspect it will be Carlos I crack first.

Thanks for the replies, I went for:The Night of The Hunter.

I've managed to squeeze one more title out of my budget.

Last question;
The Killing or Kiss Me Deadly?
