Rocket Man, no worries, dude, just clarifying and letting others know the CriterionCast tweets are usually pretty solid.

Last Friday was actually Veterans' Day.

Quick question, why is everyone saying saying Criterion's releasing
[Show spoiler]The Trial
when the Tumblr photos are clearly for
[Show spoiler]The Trial of Joan of Arc
?

[Show spoiler]The Trial
is the name of several films, and none have anything to do with
[Show spoiler]The Trial of Joan of Arc
:

[Show spoiler]The Trial (1948 film), a 1948 Austrian film based on the events of the Tiszaeszlár blood libel

Trial (1955 film), directed by Mark Robson and starring Glenn Ford with no relation to Kafka's novel

The Trial (1962 film), a 1962 film based on Kafka's novel, directed by Orson Welles and starring Anthony Perkins

The Trial (1993 film), a 1993 film based on Kafka's novel, directed by David Hugh Jones and starring Kyle MacLachlan and Anthony Hopkins

The Trial (2009 film), a 2009 documentary film on the trial for war crimes of the former prime minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj

The Trial (2010 film), a 2010 drama film based on the novel by Robert Whitlow

I was thinking of some good ones a few days ago...and today, I forgot ALL of them.

Except Zardoz.

But I have been super busy at work today, a stark contrast from last year, and have not had time to do much posting.

Glad to know I have a fan, though!

I was really looking forward to seeing for spine #600 to be 'Bird on a Wire"

Oooh, that would be nice. TCM's been showing The Innocents with Ms. Kerr a lot lately, and I think it would be a fantastic title for the collection. It's genuinely creepy.

Will Tiny Furniture be the first film released by Criterion since The Rock and Armageddon that got awful reviews? I seriously don't get it.

No, Criterion released A Safe Place in the BBS box set last year. They also upgraded Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas back in April.

I don't have an issue with use of coupons if you are reasonable about it. Some of those posters did 5-6 transactions in a row to get all their titles for 10, or had a manager come and override the clerk when they were denied. That's not reasonable. That draws attention to yourself, and causes coupons to be ruined for everyone. Once or twice, or don't do the transactions in a manner that will draw attention to yourself, and if you're rejected, just say fine. The coupon does have regulations, and B&N isn't inforcing them in a manner they should. It's slightly dishonest to use a coupon that was intended for one time use one two more times, but no one is 100% ethical. However, using it like 5 times or more in a row is just low. Just because there's a loophole, doesn't mean you have to exploit that loophole so much that it ruins the fun for everyone.

The 50% off pre-orders is a little different, as a lot of people didn't think it was a mistake at first, and that B&N were trying to compete with Amazon. However, if someone had ordered 5 or 6 copies of every single pre-order, that would again, be abusing the system.

Again, I have no problems with the coupons, I have problems with people who will only buy because of the coupons, and could potentially cause the whole 50% off sale to not occur.
No argument from me...that is exactly what I do...push a little, but beyond that, you swallow hard and deal with it. I would NEVER flag a manager to do an override...that's insane and most managers would follow the textbook on coups use anyway. Ya gotta be reasonable!

As for the coupon BS, I understand your point, but I also know that you will not sit and wait for the next 'super-sale' to buy another release, as you enjoy the films for what they are. The people in the sale forum, from what I am reading, do not seem like fans or lovers of the films, but rather people that want to get a 'deal'. The fact that they can 'wait' on a film for 6+ months to purchase at a better price (at $15 or less) is pointless if you enjoy the film. Seems, as according to their collection link, that they have no problem paying $15 or so for 'Green Lantern', but not a Criterion release. This has frankly led me to believe that they will buy at the low price and sell for profit, which is fine, but apparently the abuse has led to B&N to discontinue coupon use in-store for many customers. I think that sort of wraps it up....
Well...looks like we're both on the same path with today's purchases. I rented the Three Colors DVDs from NetFlix and loved them all...Double Life made sure that I checked them out. I also rented The Decalogue, which I hope SOMEONE eventually releases on blu...

I've never seen Rules of the Game, but keep hearing what an important film it is...seems the right thing to do to pick it up.

It's a shame that the "whor*s" that blatantly misuse the coups, screw it up for the rest of us.
